    Hey guys,

I have a Powermac G5 with an AGP ATI Radeon 9800XT working well for most things. I wanted to install a secondary video card to do Warp3d stuff (since it's a very big reason I wanted to use MorphOS in the first place!) so I was able to pick up a Voodoo 3 2000 PCI card. I fitted the card, attached a monitor, and booted. The card was recognized during the MorphOS boot sequence and displayed the MorphOS boot logo. However, once Ambient loaded on my primary gpu/monitor, the voodoo stayed on the boot logo. I tried running some games on that monitor by choosing the gfx/monitor combo at game launch which always resulted in a frozen computer - the strange thing is that the monitor would change to an all black screen before freezing.

So, after trying a few combinations of games and graphics settings to try to get games to load, I went into the Screens preferences and noticed that a great many screens for the Voodoo 3 were already set up. Each time I selected one, clicked 'edit' and then tried to 'test' the screen resolution, my secondary monitor would display a portion of the typical test display, always off center, and typically with some morphos artifacts mixed in. Also, it would totally freeze the computer.

So, is it not really possible to use dual monitors? Or do I need to configure the settings for the voodoo card differently? I don't believe the voodoo is flashed for mac but I was reading that this shouldn't be an issue - is that not the case?

    Thanks!

Did you try using normal MUI applications on that screen? To do that you need to define a screen using the voodoo. After doing that you can move any application to the secondary screen and even move the mouse over.

However, when it comes to gaming there are a big issues with using the voodoo. The GFX mem ist quite low and your screen is probably not 640x480, so you run out of gfx memory very quickly. I am using a voodoo in my G4 and it is nice as secondary screen, but when it comes to playing videos or games fun is over quite soon, especially I am using a 1440x900 screen in 16 bit.

Since your card is showing the boot image, it is working fine with MorphOS. The voodoo is just not the card you want to use for 3D.

The only way out would be fixing the need of using different cards, so you could use a Radeon 9200 PCI. Until then it is best to forget about that for just a hand full of games.

BTW: WipEout works even better in FPSE using the PSX game, than using the "real" port.

Really? I'm guessing on a G4 and not a G5. On a G5 I stopped using FPSE because there was a few pretty serious issues, including sound and video was out of sync.

Actually yes. Just on Efika and G4, where it has some minor issues, but aside that, it works quite well.
