Ok, finally got my PB today but I can`t install MOS on it because despite burning 5 (yes 5) cds on OSX which is already on it obviously, they never boot when I hold C (PB just ignores them) and they don`t appear in the boot menu either.
What am I doing wrong?
Hi Fraggle,
Sorry I have not checked this thread more carefully to see that you are still having problems booting and installing MorphOS3.1 on your G4 PowerBook. I have been busy elsewhere and when I saw the off topic banter in this thread, I guess I assumed that your problems had been resolved.
Scanning through the thread quickly just now I am surprised that no one seems to have suggested that you are probably making a mistake in how you are burning the MorphOS3.1 CD's (maybe someone did and I missed it).
When I was first starting to use Mac's and MorphOS, I too created several "Drink Coasters" out of CD-R discs, because I did not properly "Burn" the CD disc image, but instead burned the files from the MorphOS.iso to the CD-R and only ended up with a data disc, and not a bootable MorphOS3.1 installation disc. Do you think it is possible that this is what you are doing as well? When you say that you do not like MacOSX, this makes me believe that maybe you are not burning the disc image correctly.
You must use the MacOSX "Disk Utility" program to burn the MorphOS.iso disc image to the CD-R and must not change the name that the CD is going to be named by default. One or two members here will probably remember that I made the same mistake. In fact, I think I made this same mistake more than once, because I forgot about my mistake a couple years later, when a new version of MorphOS was released, so I made the same mistake again.
If you are burning only the files in the .iso image to the CD it will cause the exact symptoms you are describing and since you are not having any problems with the SuperDrive in your G4 PowerBook while you are running MacOSX, this leads me to believe that you are creating data discs and not bootable MorphOS3.1 Installation CD's.
Please describe exactly each step you are taking to create your MorphOS3.1 installation CD when you burn it, so we can tell you if you are doing it correctly. If you have not been using the MacOSX "Disk Utility" program, I can almost guarantee you that this is where you are going wrong.
Hope this helps.
