I bought my motherboard from Ultraspec and built my own system. These guys stand behind what they sell and are available to phone and discuss issues.

I would recommend Ultraspec, they are a great reseller.

    Agreed and well said!

    @Infintiy
An integrator offers a valuable service for those that do not wish to build their own systems with the advantage that they stand behind/warrant their work and provide customer support.

If you do not need that support, then simply don't pay for it.

Please also factor in other costs, inventory, packaging, labor etc. and you'll see that the margin isn't that great.

    >Hello everyone :) I want to thank all of you for the comments.
    >It seems as if Infinity is a very discriminating user.

I think you don't know the meaning of "disciminate".
Ultrascpec maybe sell overpriced pegasossystems and thats we are talking about.

    >Unfortunately, the Pegasos hardware is not cheap.

we all know the salesprice of the mb+cpu seperately

    >The subject of pricing comes up often, so I will explain it once again:
    >Genesi does not offer substantial discounts to their resellers.

it will be lower thay the salesprice (i hope) ;)

    >We spend as much as you guys do on the Pegsaos hardware.
    >As for the other parts, the Radeon 9200 SE, 40GB HDD, etc --
    >Of course they are not the latest and greatest.
    >They are tested and known to be reliable.
    >Rather than sell the customer system components the Pegasos hardware won't fully take advantage of (Faster than DDR266 RAM, larger capacity ATA-133 or SATA hard drives) we use parts that are, simply, going to work.
    >For example, we won't use a graphics card that is not well supported in both MorphOS and Linux or a hard drive that is known to have the "click of death".

Why not use 160gb hd and 512 or 1024 mb ram? Nobody talks about faster ram or sata because they don't make any sence. just make it larger and/or cheaper, thats all. btw at the moment the 160 or 200gb hd have the best price/size value i think (sorry, i don't know the english description of "preis-/leistungsverhältnis")

    >We also pre-load the machines with MorphOS and Linux, and seeing some of the comments on the board, a lot of customers appreciate that, as they are not yet ready to install Linux on their own.

ok, thats a reason for a higher price, but not that high (i think)

    >Finally, compare our system to Genesi's ODW system both in price and performance.
    >You are all welcome to build your own dream machine if you do not like what's out there :)

thank's for the permission, i forgot that already ;)

    >And if you do, please tell us all about it!

    Why should I?

    >Thanks again, Michael, Ultraspec.

    No Prob.

The Price of the Pegasos and its CPU is ok. That thing is rare, produced in low quantities and also needed to run MorphOS. No Problem.

The thing is, that the rest of the "Custom System" is overpriced.
720 US Dollar (595€) are to much for that parts.

    Andreas

Why don't you bu only the board and built your system yourself if you think the price is to high ? I guess Ultrtaspecs don't only provide you a fully system but support as well :)
