"Rewritten" SmartFirmware is some term in that context that is probably just wishful thinking for some people involved there.

To be fair, the Amigans.net thread is called "pegasos2: rom reconstruction". I borrowed the term "rewritten" from the GitHub project called "pegasos2 firmware rewrite".

Kas1e is doing a great job, I wonder what benefits we can expect from the new ROM revision for those using MorphOS on Pegasos II.
For example, new supported video cards? Or new SATA/WiFi/Audio/etc. expansions.
It would be nice if someone on the MorphOS side could contribute for the benefit of everyone.
