    Like the subject says ...

I've got an Epson Stylus Photo 1270 on my parallel port, but I haven't seen it do anything yet. Anybody got something useful out of a parallel connected printer on a G4 Peg 2?

    Hello wlamee,

    Peg2 has problems with printing.
    It's a known problem.

Please read old threads, it's a great source :-)

    Hi

Im printing from my Peg through a printerserver over the network using printing to netpar.device from turboprint.

It works not with all software, but printing from Final Writer works fine for instance.

Sometimes it can be better to print to a file, and then copy the file to the printer.

    HI Gunne,

Your Peg, is that the Peg 1 or the Peg 2?

    Hi Spidey

Its a Peg 2, but printing did also work with the Peg 1.

However all software doesn't. Final Writer and GraphicsPublisher works ok, Pagestream doesn't seems to like this with netpar.device for some reason. I did just starting using this printer server a couple of days ago. And are cosidering going through this Ghostscript now again also :-) Had it working a time back, but lost all configurations in a harddisk crash later...

Its little tricky and time consuming to set up this with Ghostscript.

    Hi Gunne,

You've nicely avoided the printing problems with the Peg2 :-D

    As I don't have a printserver, I can't try that.

    @everyone
Has anybody tried the USB port for printing?
I'll check some old threads here ;-)

If it's the same printing issue under MOS1.4 that I had on my Peg , then USB printing will surely work with the Epson printers but parallel printing did not. (some issues with buffer on parallel.device?)

FYI - my printer was an Epson Stylus 860

    Hello JKD,

With the Peg 1 I was able to print with the parallel port.
The Peg 2 has problems with the parallel port (that's why I ask everybody to clearly say which Peg they use :-))

Uuuhhm, hints?? Press the connector cable correctly into the printer and parallel port of the Peg1?? :-D

    Just kidding :-D:-D (sorry, won't do that again....soon :-))

    Ok, I've got a HPDeskjet920C.
Put it in the parallel-port. Used a standard pc cable (and used too with my Amiga, so it should work).
Set the System setting->Printer at the parallel port.
Copied also my prt: and par: stuff from my Amiga to the same directories on Ambient (not in the MorphOS-directory)
I really don't know if this is necessary.
Also set the correct setting in the Printer settings for my printer.

Installed WordWorth and FinalWriter and printing works with those programs.
It still doesn't work with every program!
    Hope this helps you.

    Hi magnetic,

Just tried printing via USB port with my HPDeskjet920C.

    My system just crashes.

Ok, looked in the System settings->USB.
In there I see it's recognised and configured at usbparallel.device;0.
So I chose in System settings->Printer as port: Device.
    Filled in after Device: "usbparallel.device".
    The unit number is 0.

    This should suffice I guess.

    Tried WordWorth, FinalWriter and CED.
With each I get the message from Turboprint that the printer isn't connected and after that my whole system freezes.

This problem occured also with my Peg1, so it's not new for me.

As nobody else answered your question, I guess printing with USB port doesn't work?!

    Bye,

    Stop the press

    It suddenly works!!
And I don't know how I got it to get working :-)

What did I do after my previous post here:

I typed as device name "usbparallel" instead of "usbparallel.device".
Tried printing with WordWorth (already had that going on).
Ofcourse got the errormessage that it didn't recognise the printer device.

Tried unit 1, instead of unit 0.
    Got the same error message.

Now changed back the device name to "usbparallel.device" and unit "0".

Switched back to WordWorth. And it started to print!!!
I've resetted the computer, started WordWorth and it still works.
Also tried FinalWriter and that too works all of a sudden.
Even picture printing is good! Both with WordWorth and Final Writer.

I'll try to figure out why it prints now.

One other thing, is something wrong with MorphZone?
It takes a lot of time to get connected with it today.

    Bye,

    Spidey

Has anybody tried installing the Amiga original TurboPrint 7.x and see if that works?

Maybe that will get things done. Although I'm starting to dislike the printer not working, even putting a plain text file to either PRT: or directly to PAR: does not work ...

    Spidey and Co.

Thanks for this thread. This is important information for the Morphos/pegasos community. Many people will be joining us and the movement is growing. We need alot of user supported activities.

If this thread could grow into a nice FAQ on Printing with Peg2 we could put it right here on MZ for others to know.

    :-D

    Hi magnetic,

It sure would be a good idea to to make a good summary of all available data concerning printing in MOS. :-)

Personally I think it's a good idea to wait a little while more to see how much is corrected in MOS1.5 when it's out. Perhaps then it's not needed anymore.

For now I think all major printing aspects for the Peg 2 is described in this thread :-)

Time for a 1.4.5 service release then?

Seriously...if MOS is generating interest (and it is...am starting to see both ex-Amiga folks and others ask around) then printing and TCP/IP needs addressing now...not later.

Realize (sic!) this is not actually your arean to solve but you can feedback since it impacts your sales (which is your problem) :D

    Take care,

    Hi magnetic,

I would like to see a major update in the nearby future, especially with good print-support :-)

In the meantime, I think if someone makes a summary of this thread it would be good guide for printing with the Peg2 :-)

    Spidey,

I now have bought a USB cable through which Poseidon actually recognized my printer (Epson Stylus Photo 1270).

But I still can't print anything. When you said 'PRT: and VAR: ... copy these files from your original Amiga', where from? In MOSSYS:Devs/DOSDrivers there are PAR and PRT files, but definitely not in the Amiga installation.

I still haven't been able to print a single character from my Peg2, what does it take? I also found that there does not seem to be a PS: device (or a Ghostscript: assign, for that matter), eventhough it looks properly configured in the System Settings printer page.

I have the problem that my printer is listed for turboprint, but doesn't seem to be in the morphos install. Dunno what to do at this point myself...

Oh yeah, posting a "keep alive" post is one thing, but please make the "keep alive" something more than just "I'm being ignored." Sometimes, one has to wait for the right person to login.

Sorry about that, it wasn't a keep-alive. After posting my message first time round, I didn't see it appear on the new page I got back.

After reposting it to check if I missed something or overlooked an error message, I found out that the page I got back from Morphzone was the oldest page for that thread, which of course did not contain the newest message. A flaw in the posting system I guess, it should return the page which contains the posted message.

So I tried to delete the extra posts, but can only change the message content (BTW, disabling the 'attach signature' checkmark also did not work). And please note that I made the content "Please ignore this message" instead of "I'm being ignored" which, apart from having a completely different meaning, was the best I could do in that situation.

Anyway, getting back on topic: I now have my Epson Stylus Photo 1270 (which I already had selected in System Settings -> Printer page) connected via USB as well as parallel, but still can not get it to print or do anything (with any of the programs I tried).

And after the installation, in the System Settings -> Printer page -> PS tab it says 'Command Line: Ghostscript:GS ...', whereas the Ghostscript: assign is not on my system, and nor is the PS: device. Is this a default MOS setting without actually having Ghostscript as part of the standard installation?

Do I have to install Amiga Ghostscript v5.10 (or Amiga v8 from Woosh) to get this bit working or was it supposed to work out of the box?

PS: Are the URL / IMG / EMAIL / QUOTE buttons and the bold / italic / underline checkmarks and Add button in the Morphzone posting page supposed to work with IBrowse 2.3? It doesn't seem to work over here, I have to add all the HTML-ish codes by hand.

    Hi wlamee,

You've got your printer attached to the system via USB.

Did you direct printer output to the usbparallel.device in System Settings->Printer->Device?

    Choose for port Device.

In the window beneath Configuration you should see your selected printer.

    Good luck,
