I have been thinking to get a new printer for a while, and my interest is in the all-in-one printers with wifi.

As far as I have understood, some of these printers have the option to scan from the web-interface. So scanning would be possible without the need for any drivers. Also some of the new HP photosmart printers have a feature that makes it possible to print a document just by sending an email attachment to the printer. They supports a wide range of formats, pictures, text files, HTML, word, powerpoint, pdf etc.

Have anybody been able to test any of these printers and can confirm that this works well from MorphOS?
Please state the printer brand and model if you have.

Hi I have this https://morph.zone/modules/newbb_plus/viewtopic.php?topic_id=7821&forum=11 printer, it scans to usb, mail, ftp and more and I believe you can send it a mail to print the attachments to, it can also print a pdf from usb.
Here is a link in Swedish but its close to your native language anyway:) link1 and here is another
    link2
This printer cost alot, but this was the cheapest printer with wifi, laser, color, postscript and scanner I could find and it cost about 770USD

    Thanks for the reply.
It looks like a good printer, but a bit expensive if you dont print to much. I was hoping that one of the cheaper HP printers or similar could do this as well.
Doest it really scan and print directly to/from MorphOS using the USB interface?

And can it be used for fetching scanned images using its webinterface?
I work a lot away from home, and sometimes there are snail-mail I would like to read. But the folks at home are not trained in using a scanner and send the result by mail, so it would be easier if I could just ask them to put the paper on the scannner and scan it myself from work.

If you only want to use USB there must be cheaper printers for you.
You can print directly from MorphOS with USB interface, wifi or wired.
You can't scan via USB not using any driver software. You can't scan via web interface you must physical press a button on the printer. I press a button and the printer send the scanned image via wifi as a PDF to my ftp server, simple and works perfect.

    >You can't scan via web interface
Ok, that was what I was wondering about. I'll wait until I can find a printer that can do that then.

    >If you only want to use USB there must be cheaper printers for you.
No, I want a printer that can do wireless, so that all household computers can access it.

    >I press a button and the printer send the scanned image via wifi as a PDF to my ftp server, simple and works perfect.
That sounds to be close to what I need. You can set it up to scan to a given ftp server (eg. a dreambox, since its always on anyway) and it will do that just by pressing one button?

This one can scan from a webinterface (works with OWB in MorpOS) : HP 3050.
Just type the printer IP in a browser. Click "Scan" and then download the scanned picture.

Have not yet succeded with the actual printing from MOS.
Unsure about which printer driver to use and the port number for netprinter. (anyone?)

    Price about €80 (650NOK) Link to: Komplett.no
    Features: Wifi, colour/bw, ink/deskjet, usb, scan/print/copy

Thanks, that sounds promising for the HP printer. That makes me hope that other HP printers have the same feature in their webinterface.
So if the new e-printer enabled printers from HP also have this option for scanning, they will work both for printing and scanning from any device without drivers needed.

Here are a few HPs with ePrint that I find interesting.
eStation because it also comes with a 7" android wifi pad.

Envy 100, because it is small and quiet.

Photosmart B110a, this is the cheapest one in the ePrint range I have found, at 895NOK (101GBP)

My current printer is a HP PSC 950C and I use one of the HP drivers that came with MOS distribution, and it works ok with that. I'm not at home so I cant check which specific driver I use.

I would try to set up netprinter.device with the default port (9100) and try some of the HP drivers that you suspect might work with your printer. But you might have tried this already?

Ok, at least I don't get any error messages anymore when using the default port 9100. And I have tried a couple of the included HP Deskjet drivers. But still nothing. Have a few more drivers to try though. The generic HP Deskjet driver did not work for me.

One issue about DHCP networks is that the printer get's (or could get) a different IP for each reboot (printer-reboot). Worth to keep in mind.

To be more specific about the name: HP Deskjet 3050 J610 Series

    Hi,

I use an HP LaserJet CP1525nw (no scanner) with ePrint and it works great with all my devices. As the advertising promotes, I can send the printer (via a dedicated email address) just about any attachment and it prints it up perfectly. I use it mostly with my Android devices since there's no integrated printing yet. Set-up was very painless, probably because my router happened to have a button on the side specifically for finding wireless printers. Otherwise, I might have had to set it up on my wife's Mac.

HP printers with ePrint also tend to be the printers that are compatible with iOS's printing capabilities.

Good luck and keep us updated on the web-scanning interface.

I have searched and found that HP OfficeJet 8500A does have both ePrint and scan to email or network folder features.
So that printer could be fully usable without any printer/scanner drives.
Se also Specs at HPs website for more details

For anyone that wants to get one from their local dealer must be aware of that there are several models of the OfficeJet 8500A. I found that to be sure it have these scanning features it must have the suffix A910g or A910n.
The full model no at the HP website is HP Officejet Pro 8500A Plus e-All-in-One Printer - A910g
The difference between these two is mainly the size of the sheet feeder. But there is a third model, that ends with A910a. That one does have these scanning features.

Got an used HP Laserjet 4050N with a 90% full 20K page toner for 50€. Say 18K pages left, that's a rough 0,27 cents per page : x10 lower than brand new printer.

It supports PCL5, PS3 and does 600dpi (1200dpi with some smoothing). Network enabled printer, it works like a charm with NetPrinter.device from Geit.

Unbreakable, robust, nicely featured, it is even memory expandable and can be stuffed with a hard drive.

    All this for 50€.

For scanning, I catched an Epson USB Perfection 1600 (or alike). It works perfectly with Scandal from rzookol. 15€.

Using used hardware can sometime leads to serious saving.

I just got my new printer, a HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus and here is a short report on how it works with Morphos3.1 (macmini).

It does work ok so far, and it has most of the features I was after.
I can not scan via scanner software like scandal, but I can use the webinterface to scan using OWB.
The webinterface allows me to set some basic options like resolution, image quality and choose between some preset paper sizes. I can choose output format to jpg or pdf, but jpg will not work on OWB for some reason. Pdf works fine.

I havent printed so much yet, and I had a few tries before I managed to set it up to work via netprinter.device.
At first I used the .inkjet-HP printer config, and it worked - but only in BW. Then I tested a few and then I found that the config for HP_Paintjet300XL did work in colour. (Tested using Ghostscript)

So thats all good. I would be happy even if I couldnt get the net print sorted, because the printer also have the eprint option, so I can attatch the file I want in a mail and it will be printed instantly.
Same goes for scanning, it can email the scanned images as well without the need for a computer.
It also have an option to scan to a network folder, but I havent tested that yet.

I have a hp officejet 4622, which is an all in one. How can I set this up to print wirelessly, if at all?
I go it going on win7, through installed software, ubuntu through cups web interface, but is there
some similair process through morphos to print wirelessly? The weinterface hase a localhost, but
not sure how to configure, I figure the same process amyren
used, would also work for this model as well

    Thanks

I have several HP printers here and use this WiFi device to send printjops to them:
    http://hometheater.about.com/od/Network-Media-Player-Reviews/fr/Netgear-WNCE2001-Universal-Wifi-Adapter-Review-bg.htm
    and it work flawlessly fine!

This WiFi adapter can be configured/setup via OWB. It's easy to use, cheap to buy and does up to 300 mbs and also have a wps button for automatic wifi integration.

yea..about adapters, I already have to do that for wireless connection on mini. I just want to print, but no big deal if there isn't a simple morphos solution.
I just thought the web interface would connect up on the local host as mldonkey's webinterface does....

Just make sure it supports PCL5 (not 6) and/or Postscript. The rest depends on your needs.

Wifi or ethernet doesn´t matter. The printer talks over network, so all devices connected via cable or wifi can print to it.

PCL6 Standard works while PCL6 Enhanced does not (and figuring out which of these two is supported by a printer sold as PCL6-compatible might be no easy task).
