    Hmm, so I got:
For one machine: Production week: 12 (March)
For the other: Production week: 10 (March)
    Both 2005.

So no silent upgrades on these.

I just had one vendor selling a September 2005 "1.42GHz" Mac Mini G4 decline to give me the serial number, and express suspicion about my request for the serial number for "verification". It expires very shortly. Anyone else had such an experience? (Edit: Now expired.)

Edit: After expiration this was confirmed just now not to be a silent upgrade model. :D

I finally managed to get a good deal on a REAL 1.5GHz machine from the States, cheaper than my last one in fact even with P&P, before customs charges are added on top (which will be quite substantial, but still pretty good value overall). This is probably a couple of weeks away from arriving.

The only issue now is locating a cheap UK power adapter. I have a step-down transformer which can handle US appliances designed for 120V, but I'd prefer a Mac Mini G4 power adapter which can run on 230V, preferably with a UK plug (although a continental one will be fine as those adapters are cheap). I've seen some extremely expensive ones online. Does anyone know where I can find a suitable power adapter cheaply enough?

Edit: Actually this probably isn't necessary, since from doing a bit of research, the adapters Apple use seem to have power rating "Input: AC 100-240V, 50-60Hz", which works in both the US and UK.
If the supplied US adapter fits that rating (and I'll find out soon), I should be able to use it in the UK with a simple plug adapter (or new power cord), no step-down transformer or new power supply needed.

[Yes, the adapter is 110-240 volt compatable, and the connection is a simple two prong telefunken (lol) socket, you'll know it if you see it, top one in this picture:

And you'll have a cable that'll fit somewhere in the house.
     :-)

Oops! That's for the Powerbook, the Mac Mini one is different, and less common, you could just cut off the US plug and attach a UK one?

This machine has just reached UK Customs, to await clearance which can take a week or two. The cost was only US $142.50 (UK £88.19) + US $49.78 (UK £30.81) P&P, coming to a total of US $192.28 (UK £119.00).

I'm still awaiting customs charges, which are likely to include 20% VAT (from their calculations of the hardware cost), plus a handling fee - I'll post the total when I get it for comparison with my last offer, but this still looks like a good deal even with high customs charges and tax.

Conversion to a UK plug is likely to be trivial, I'll probably purchase a cheap plug adapter rather than re-wire it or get a new power lead.

Whether I'll shell out the 111.11 EUR (currently UK £90.06) for a MorphOS registration on top is another issue, though, with my being a mature student...

It's a nice little machine, small and quiet, a bit underpowered for Leopard, and the maximum of 1GB of ram is a restriction of MacOS, but it just flies with MorphOS.

I use mine in preference to Dual 1.42 powermac, which has more Ram, more graphics memory, and seems faster, but is just soo bloomin' noisy.
