I would like to by a Dell Ultrasharp U2711:

and use it with MorphOS. What do you think about this? Would be the hardware too slow to have a comfortable use with a so big resolution monitor?

- no such res predefined in MorphOS (I did define a new 1920x1200 res back with MorphOS 1.4.x so it should be doable)
- you'll be running out of VMEM real fast even with 128MB
- no (fully) supported GFX-card comes with DVI-D (or even Display-Port), not sure wether analog would be a good idea at such res.

I've just fitted a Radeon9800XT 256MB: no way to use this monitor with this board at full resolution?

MorphOS 2.7 should only see half of that VRAM:

Well the 9800XT should have DVI-D but isn't fully supported (read no 3D).

Wether DVI-D works out of the box or would require xtra work in the GFX-driver ....... guess you're about to find out ...

I don't think we've ever tested a dual-link dvi - most likely it isn't going to work. Also, even if you used it with R200, you'd get no 3D acceleration on such resolutions, also for 2D alpha operations.

Any video card with a single dual link DVI port should be able to drive a high resolution monitor.

Having 2 DVI-ports has nothing to do with having DVI-D .....

I am a bit still confused. I perfectly know that I have no 3D support on the Radeon 9800, but I would like to understand if this board has dual link and would work at 2560x1440 with that monitor under MorphOS or not. Please make me it clear.

P.S. Andreas MorphOS only see 128MB at the moment, but I already knew it.

Maybe that wasn't 100% definitive, but while your card could support it it doesn't sound like it would work.

once in past i tried, what resolution will be possible to view on my old 19" crt monitor... with MorphOS 1.4.5: 2560x1582.

Question is, if the dvi can transfer such amount of data without harm, analog VGA can do 'anything', but dvi/hdmi has it's digital limitations... and i'm not sure, if this resolution works with dual-dvi the same way as it does with single dvi... imo, another or improved driver would be needed...

Are such resolutions pleasant to the eye?. I have watched at a friends home a computer running on a 30 tft and don't get it for a desktop use. Obviusly for watching videos or movies is another thing, but for that you have better hardware.
