What does anyone think of using a Koolance CPU-300-V10 water cooling block on an OWC 1.47 7455 CPU board (in my Quicksilver)?
It seems like it might be the optimum way to overclock a G4.

The cheapest refurbished liquid cooling unit I found on their site was $249 + $19.95 for the cooling block and then you would need to buy tubing as well and the nozzles to attach the tubing from the cooling block to the external radiator unit.

That sounds like an expensive cooling solution for a computer that you can pick up for less than $50 most of the time.

I guess it is not too expensive for people that like to tinker with their computers and want to test the limits of how far they can push the hardware, but it does not seem like a rational thing to do to try to get just a bit more performance on a MorphOS system where there is so little software that requires any added performance than what is already provided from a stock speed G4 system.

The cooling block by itself is only $19.95.
I think I can fashion the rest of the system (I've already got a small radiator and pump from a Thermaltake system).
The OWC card looks like it uses standard Socket 370 mounts.
As such it shouldn't be hard to modify the Socket A mount for this processor.

BTW - I replaced the stock CPU heatsink/fan combo with a slightly larger Socket 370 cooler made by CoolerMaster and successfully overclocked the processor.

For just $20, I would do the same, but the only liquid cooling pumps I have are inside my G5 PowerMac, which I won't be stealing it from to experiment on my G4 PowerMac.

What speed did you over-clock your G4 to?

I'd like to do some comparative benches.
I'd like to see how this CPU compares to an MDD 1.42 (at stock speeds and overclocked) and to a Sonnet 1.8 7447 (which was the last upgrade board I owned).

While I suspect it should do well, I'm still planning on eventually moving to an MDD like yours.

Right now, I need to find my OSX boot CD (as constantly changing hardware and re-flashed video cards has corrupted my hard drive).

BTW - I was going through my hardware and found two NEC USB 2.0 cards. Let me know if we have any developer's systems that could use them.
