    Hello,

I am on the verge to reflashing a radeon 9200 AGP card to work with my Quicksilver 2002 mac. I bought a used Radeon 9200 LE that turns out it was from an HP computer, and after a few hours of messing with various flashing guides, there was no hope, so I advise anyone to stay away from any propretary video cards from HP, Dell, etc...

Right now I am buying a Sapphire Radeon 9200 AGP 128MB video card, and turns out that over at Mac Elite, there might have to be some resistor mods on the back of it that have to be done once you flash it with a Mac video bios. Of course to get the card to work with any Quicksilver, you gotta remove pins 3 & 11 on the backside of the video card. Do so by scraping the trace away or removing some resistors if it allows u.

I will keep you guys posted on my findings when my video card arrives later this week to see if I can successfully flash it over to MAC. :)

You shouldn't have any problem with the second card you've mentioned.
I'm typing this post on a Powermac equipped with a re-flashed Sapphire 9200..
Just remember to move (or remove) the one resistor after re-flashing and tape mask (over cut ) the two leads that should be mentioned in your guide.
We're talking about less than an hour's work. It's less intimidating than it looks, Go for it. If you're careful, it will come off flawlessly.

    GREAT news!

I take back to what I said about not buying the propretary HP cards.. So I was reading further down that resistor that has to be changed, and you had to change R239 to R240. (Believe thats what it was), and it was at first challenging to know which one it was, because on the HP card I have it is very hard to tell since they moved everything. I took a wild guess and determined which were the resistor I had to change... carefully yanked it off, and took out the solder iron and bridged the two that needed connected. Now she works! :)

The only thing I ran as far as issues was, when you flash the HP card, it will complain if you try to program it with a full 128K Retail 9200 mac bios. You can use the reduced sized 64K rom file and it should successfully flash.

As of now, I have to double check to make sure all the resolutions are ok and that it picks up my monitor type etc...

    :)

Yes, that seems to be the solution to a common problem:

"Oddly, the x86 image on my Connect 3D is 128K, and that's the flash size reported by atiflash. I can only write a 64K image to the card, however."

If you are specifically buying gfx cards to flash for mac use (in other words, doing some bigger effort), why not get some better gfx card, such as Radeon 9000 to begin with?

    I don't think 9000 and 9200 differ noticeably, assuming it's not about 9000Pro vs. 9200 or 9000(Pro) vs. 9200SE.

    @Jupp3

I figured they were probably close in performance anyways, and I got the Sapphire card $20 off ebay sihpped.

So far this other HP card seems to be working fine. :) But I will definately give the other card a go and see what happens.

I see no differnce in performance moving from an Apple Radeon 9000Pro to a Saphire 9200. Of course I had to obtain a new card because my 9000 was failing and I mistakenly thought a 256MB card would use all available memory.

The 9000Pro didn't offer enough advantages. Now if I could have figured out how to get a 128MB 8500 working...

Anyway, as Andreas said, there an insignificant difference. I'm looking forward to 9600 and 9700 3D support. Then we'll have a real performance jump.
