    Hi

I'm just wondering. Correct me please if I'm wrong.

Processor in Peg 2 is PowerPC MPC7447 working with 1Ghz speed.

Is there any chance that the MPC7447 for example from here: http://www.ciao.co.uk/Sonnet_Encore_MDX_G4_Duet_Freescale_PowerPC_7447A_1_8_GHz_processor_board__6658897 will be working with Peg after old PPC being replaced?

I don't know if the existing Pegasos G4 CPU cards can have their 7447 replaced by the pincompatible 7447A and still work. But I know that some Pegasos II G4 were delivered with 7447A at 1.4 GHz:

pampers I agree with andreas here, the best bet for you would be to contact bplan themselves with this inquiry

With blan and Genesi not releasing the schematics for the processor card, that would be about the only way an upgrade could be made available.
Does anyone know someone that owns a 1.4 Ghz processor card?

If you follow my links you'll find someone who knows someone that owns it ;-)

I know that Sven Luther, the former Genesi employee and Pegasos Linux ppc kernel maintainer (and former maintainer of the powerup ppc kernel as well!) had a 1.4ghz for testing linux purposed afaik...

I've noticed that a surprising number of people have made similar posts.
It would be easy to point out that if they wait they could upgrade to a faster processor via a Powermac.

But how many Peg2s were produced and what would the potential market for an upgraded processor card be? 7447 processors aren't cheap, so it wouldn't be a cheap upgrade to produce.

Furthermore, the 7447 is not produced anymore, was available only up to 1.267 GHz and not RoHS compliant. Thus, a 7447A or 7448 would be needed.

Good Point Andreas. A 7447A would work as a replacement, but would the 7448 work with out a firmware update?

Without a schematic it's all a moot point anyway. Only bplan could produce an upgraded processor card and I doubt they're interested.

This is kind of a resume of a story already ended years ago: Processor card upgrade wasn't viable at all.
Back then people were more interested, because there was only the Pegasos. Go figure the interest now, with the MacMini option.

Yes it is pointless and it has been brought up repeatedly. Peg users with a 1 Ghz processor ought to have fairly good performance anyway. If they want better performance, its time to switch systems.
