I need to know, before i buy another video card...

I currently have an Nvidia riva-tnt 16mb card and an XGI Volari that came with my efika...

do i need to buy an ATI card for morphOS or will there be an XGI driver...

Only MorphOS developers know the answer to this question. Pray / hope one of them responds back to you.

It has been close to 3 years since 1.4.5 so who knows what drivers were added. From what it looks like, this information won't be revealed until 2.0 is ready for release.

Radeons from 7000 to 9250 also have ( OpenGL ) 3D support. Maybe they've added support for newer ones in the last 3 years?

You may want to wait for details regarding supported hardware before running out for a new video card.

The first 3D update was released in august 2005.
A further update also added Radeon r200 support for Pegasos1.

Since then, support for more 92x0 variants was added (i.e. same cards with new chip id).
Do not expect NVidia or XGI drivers in the near future because they just do not exist for now.

On the other hand, support for already supported Radeons (see the list on 3d.morphos-team.net) was greatly improved.

Genesi dropped XGI anyway...

2D *could* work on a 9600. In any case, it is not really supported (it is a bit difficult to find r300 cards able to work in a Pegasos). As of 3D, this is not supported at all so "layers 3D" will perform very poorly.

That's why it is better to wait for 2.0 release to see what the new drivers are. Or for a 2.0 hardware list.

No new Radeon is supported, beside some limited support for r300 and only in 2D.
Good luck finding a r300 able to physically and electrically work in a Pegasos, though (I know some people achieved it).

Yeps, Saphire 9800 Pro 128mb works on peg but not with MOS.

why do You need newer/faster gfx cards? imo, old radeons are still damn fast, and all those new cards are just bussiness, which is required in the battle of nvidia/ati... i'm still very happy with my 9000pro, 128 megs, that i bought 5 years ago... :)

I've read something about opensource Drivers from ATI 2D/3D for all GFX-Cards from the 9xxx series and all X Series.
Is that true?
I think that this could become a big Problem for MOS-Users when there will be no new Drivers for newer Cards, because we wan't get Radeon 9000-9250 Cards for the next 10 years. Now it's sometimes hard to get a Radeon 9250.
So what are the options to get new Drivers for newer Cards?
Are there any other Opensource approaches for Nvidia oder Ati Drivers? Maybe in the Linux world?

What about models working under 1.5v ? Must we only use 3.3v models or not ? When I wanted to change two years ago my Radeon 9200Se for a Radeon 9250 I saw at a local pc seller a model. I asked my pegasos vendor and he warned me that this Radeon 9250 model was working under 1.5v. According to him a try with this graphic card could destroy or damage it and/or the pegaos motherboard... Is this kind of assertion true or false ? What will happend if Iwant to perform a try with a model 92xx, 95xx, 96xx or 98xx working under 1.5v ? Will the pegasos start when power on, will it at least detect and show the graphic card, and then will it show the openfirmware to the prompt or not ,

Pegasos II board provides AGP 1X slot - 3.3v.

AGP 1X & 2X work at 3.3v
AGP 4X uses 1.5v
AGP 8X uses 0.8v

The Pegasos II ( & Peg I ) would support only 3.3v cards. These are, 1X, 2X and universal 2/4X AGP cards.

NOT supported are: 4X, 4/8X & 8X AGP cards
Putting a non supported card in there would likely destroy the video card but may also damage the motherboard because the motherboard would try to push 3.3v ( too much voltage / power ) to the video card which can only handle 1.5 ( or 0.8 ) volts.

The cards that support 3.3v ( 2X ) will work in Pegasos II motherboard. Radeon 7000 to 9100, 9200, 9500, 9700. Some cards, like 9250 & SE models, are missing from the list so can't say for those.

MorphOS 1.4.5 supports Radeon upto 9250 and may be the same for 2.0 release.

So, if you get a 9500 or 9700 then it may only be supported by Linux and not MorphOS. And going from 9250SE to 9250 should not make a big difference except for 3D games.

If you want to be sure, take a 5-7 years old Pc motherboard that only support AGP 2x (athlon support up to 1200 Mhz/FSB100, or PIII up to 1200Mhz).
If it fries it won't be a disaster !

this sux... had i known xgi wasn't going to be supported, i wouldn't have wasted my money on the card... as it is i can only get 16 colors on suse with the card...
