MorphOS team in my opinion should try to find a way to offer MorphOS for the Efika, and this may include an arrangement that does not strictly bundle Efika w. MorphOS with substantial development costs paid in advance by Genesi.
Noone is forcing Genesi to bundle anything. That is a misunderstanding on your part. But as has been explained before, EFIKA is not considered to have enough market potential for
desktop users by the MorphOS Team. This is a fair and valid opinion given the performance provided and its
current pricing.
As you obviously know (and probably also a hundred other people by now), the ball is in Genesi's court. The mere fact that there has been no press release announcing a cooperation, simply proves that Genesi in fact
agrees very much with the MorphOS Team that there will be insufficient market demand (as defined by the MorphOS developers). Genesi is not willing to take any risks and that should be a perfectly reasonable decision. The same is true for the MorphOS team, however.
Any further discussion of this topic will not help whatsoever. In fact, I would like to suggest that you wait until summer 2007. If EFIKA is available for the announced prices (or lower) by then, it has been successfully established on the market, and you still want to buy one because of a lack of interesting alternatives, feel free and bring this topic up again.
Last but not least, I would like to mention what I had already said on another website not too long ago. If you carefully look at the current situation (Pegasos production possibly being phased out and no interest by MorphOS Team in the EFIKA for desktop users), there are only three different conclusions possible:
a) The MorphOS Team is considerably less intelligent than people posting on internet forums.
b) The MorphOS Team likes to torture its community by developing software for unavailable hardware.
c) The MorphOS Team has much more interesting hardware options than EFIKA as far as desktop computing is cocerned. Nevertheless, the MorphOS Team was
kind enough to not deny the creation of a rough MorphOS prototype running on the EFIKA in order to demonstrate how well a proper port
might run on this type of hardware.
But how do they say? No good deed goes unpunished...
