this is my first message in the forum so, first of all, greetings to everybody!

Unfortunately after more than two years of very satisfying use of my Peg, I had my first (not so small ) problem with it.

In short, I was away for a few minutes from my computer and when I came back, I found the display frozen and a smell of smoke in the air. Switched everything off, I opened the Peg case and I found that the CPU card was a little burnt so that the little chip in the upper left corner (I have CPU card v1.1 and the little chip is labeled "R60") was unsoldered from the card.

I remember that in the past days in the forum there was a post from another user with a problem very similar to mine and someone gave him instructions and a contact address to ask for support. I tried to find that message but I couldn't find it, so please could you help me?

And please, don't tell me to go in the shop and buy a Wintel machine!

ps. This is why I tell ALL peg users with g4 cards to use temperature sensors and to check and inspect their cpu cards periodically. Usually you can catch these things before worse case scenario

Ouch, that sucks. Email bbrv or PM them here and the should let you know what to do. Genesi is very supportive.

hello,

the previous post of burnt cpu card was made by me... i have send an email to Thomas Knabel of the bPlan, and he gave me instructions what to do. After 3 weeks, i got the cpu card fixed back, and everything seams to be fine for more than two months now

Is it allways the same part which fails ?
Is there something to prevent it or to reduce risk of failure ?

I use a Case same Size like the ODW or maybe smaller and the Peg2 is running 24/7 without any Problems, sometimes after 2-3 days MOS frezz but thats all and i have a temp sensor between CPU and the Cooler and it never gets over 65° Celsius.

which CPU temperature sensor kit should i choose ?

Regarding temperature sensors, I could tell that I have a sensor
attached pretty much like ThePlayer. In the last few days it broke the
heat record with 52° Celsius (it's been hot days now). But 65 doesn't
sound dangerous to the chip either, it probably depends on the case,
ambient temperature, how well the sensor is in contact with the CPU,
etc. But I think the important thing when you have a sensor is not the
absolute number it shows, but that you get an idea of what is normal
for your setup, so that you can react if it starts rising
considerably.
