    Hi,

Sometimes when I boot my Peg2 the firmware gets as far as the b in bplan then halts. If I'm lucky, a soft reset will work but then the boot loader is ignored and I don't get the choice of OS, (always boots into the first option which is MorphOS).

    Is this normal ?

Check the connection to your keyboard. If the firmware doesn't sense a keyboard attached when probing for it, then it switches over to console over the serial line, which AFAIK will give these symptoms. In other words, it doesn't halt, but everything is sent over the serial line instead of to your monitor, so you won't see it unless you have a null modem cable connected to another computer running some terminal software.

If you have autoboot enabled it should start booting after the specified amount of time despite this.
MorphOS is Amiga done right! :-)
MorphOS NG will be AROS done right! :-)

I had this issue several times and heard about it hundred of times for various users. In 90% of the cases it wasn't related to the keyboard at all.

I never had any satisfying answer about it. It just happens randomly, sometimes, for some of us. I still love my peg.

    Edit : typos

Same goes for me... I had that problem, and was told that it was the KVM switch... The problem continued, and was told to change the KBD... After trying 3 different keyboards, with the problem continuing, I have decided that it was most definitively not the kbd, but probably something else (my gfx card is the main suspect now, and I'm waiting for a replacement to arrive from ebay).

BTW, I've tried to find a null modem cable, but looks like these things are not fashionable any more (they were great for playing Warcraft, but I guess it is a little outdated!). So, when I gather enough courage, I'll buy a couple of DB9 connectors and cable...

Well it would be interesting to hear if any of you get anything through the serial connection? In that case I guess it could mean there is some problem with the keyboard probing code in the init sequence ...?

When I switch on my Peg at the case, the keyboard seems to be probed because the 3 LEDs flash. When I hit the power button the keyboard is tested again. Given the flashes it seems to me the keyboard is fine, I haven't had any other troubles with it.

As it happens I have already bought a new keyboard so when I start using it I'll know better if it was the old keyboard causing it or not.

    thanks

Check out the logs with a serial cable.
I used to have this pb on cold boots. I was going to the Ikarus CLI.
    No pb on warm reboots.
