Red screen of death???
  • Visitor
  • We are building a Pegasos II for a client and when we turn it on all we get is a red screen.

Is this because of uncompatable hardware or is it a fault with the board, firmware or cpu?

All we get is a red screen with a black border.
    no firmware prompt???

    What is the red screen?

    Please help!

I guess you should send an email to BPlan about it instead of posting it on a public message board.
This is not good for your reseller's reputation ;-)

sounds like some broken gfx card, tried another one?

AFAIK the pegasos doesn't have colour signals when something is broken (unlike Commodore Amigas). I would try different gfxcard... and check debug log (using a serial cable) to see what it outputs here.

  • Why should asking about a problem on here effect our reputation.

This is the best place to go for Pegasos Support.

I thought this myself that it would be the graphics card but I wasnt to sure it could have been the firmware or the cpu!!!!

Its a saphire Radeon 9250 256MB DDR AGP

We have sent the card back to saphire and asked them to test it for us.

Its not our reputation nor Bplan/Genesi's reputation its nor ATI's problem I feel that it is saphire.

We are now having to go and get another card from a local retailer.

We will let you know the outcome from saphire and wether a new card corrects the problem.

    Hi,
are you sure that the CPU is DEEPLY plugged ?
that the CPU FAN is well well plugged ?
that the RAM is good and COMPATIBLE ???
that the PSU is good ? ( like these f****in NEW generation 420W PSU that gave less than 4.6v for 5v so big crash ahead...) ?
that the PS2 keyboard and mouse are well plugged at the good port ? (don't plug USB devices, especially in the wrong way :-D )
that the LEDs and reset plug are well plugged (Power LED and PowerON are enough)
that the floppy cable is not inverted
that the HDD is really virgin without MBR,
    etc...
    Keep the Faith !
