So question to whomever can answer this. My CPU fan died on my G4. Do I replace it myself or will Genesi fix it?

Send an email to bbrv and see what they tell you. Chances are you will get it fixed or they will tell you what to do about it.

If you have the 2nd generation (or newer) CPU boards, the fan will be powered via a socket (instead of soldered onto the board), thus it should be safe to replace it without voiding warranty (if you don't mess with the heatsink), however you should probably verify this with bplan/genesi before doing anything...

It's a gen 1 soldered right to the board. I'll email bbrv and see what they have to say. Thanks for the advice.

    Update:

I must say I am impressed with Bill and Raquel on this. My cpu is being replaced and the new one is on it's way back to me.

I personally have never had customer service like this out of any company I've done business with and have to give big KUDOS!!!! When I can afford another computer be ready for another order for a Pegasos (latest rev of course. :)

Happend for me 2. After asking Genesi crew (Bill and Raquel) what to do, I followed their adwise and returned my broken CPU board directly to bPlan/Germany.

bPlan told me this kind of repair takes 2-3weeks....
but they also told me they will try to speed up the service so they returned it to me only 2-3 days after sending it with a new and "fresh" fan on it... Best customer support ever!!! BIG TANKS from Finland/Norway... (I come from Norway but lives in Finland)...

    And what's next ? 3D drivers ... !!!!!! Wow!!
Now I really start needing a fan for my ATI Radeon 9200SE aswell :)... This is finally FUN!!!!!! Yeah!.....

Give us TCP/IP now.... Then we got it all... ?? Or wattabout a "MorphOs shutdown" button? shouldn't be to hard.. -hirr. -hirr...

It's good to be an Morphian??? (was easier to find a category when we all where Amigans... but we still are.. arent we ??)

Peace for the RED and the BLUE side: we are all the same kind; Amigans with a new kind'a PPC Amiga!
Let us work together, not against each other!

    Okay,

So it's been a week with my new proc and things are running great.

One thing I never expected was the prompt response from a company like I recieved with Genesi (R&B). I have never in all my dealing with companies have had customer service like this. I next day'd my proc to them and they turned around that day and next day'd a new proc back to me.

I have to give big Kudo's to Genesi on customer service and support.

  • The latest rev CPU Card has an alignment of push out holes so that you can remove the fan yourself and put say a nice GPU fan or a water cooling block in its place.

An Nvidia geforce fx fan fits perfect!

    Cheers
