    Having problems connecting.

I'm using miami-init. Here's what happens so far:

    Open MI
    -> continue
-> select 'ethernet, cable/adsl modem' abd leave 'internet' and 'dns' checked
    -> continue
-> choose '---other---' for equipment, as nothing else listed
    -> continue
    -> enter via_rhinepci.device, unit 0
-> continue - miami now says 'contacting rarp server', then 'contacting DHCP server', before telling me my local IP address cannot be determined, and things kind of grind to a halt here.

If you need PPPoE you have to use MiamiDX with MiamiDx_1200BB.lha from Aminet, it should work ... for me is fine.

If the modem uses DHCP simply say to Miami to grab automatically IP and DNS.

Regular miami does NOT have proper DHCP afaik...

also, you CAN manually configure PPoE with Miami (I did so on my old 4000T)

Get a Windows machine or something to configure that router
you bought instead. Everything will be about a thousand
    times easier..

How did you do? Only MiamiDX have support for PPPoE. Is there a chance to use GENESiS (from AOS3.9)?

What type of modem do you have?

The only working windows machine I have is an old thinkpad with no ethernet. I use it to via USB ADSL modem just now.

I certainly don't intend to buy another one, just to configure a modem.

    1. You need MiamDx to use ADSL directly.

    2. The PPPoE from MiamiDx works not so well
under MorphOS. The whole system freezes
    after some time.

    3. MiamiDx alone makes no problems (normal
    ethernet).

You could: Buy a router or a router with ADSL-modem (very cheap atm, last week I saw
full ADSL (PPPoE/PPTP)-modem with 5-port router/fw/etc. for 69,99 Euro (Lidl shop in germany).
Or You could use FLi4L (1-disk-LinUX-router),
use a PeeeCeee,a Mac or an classic-Amiga with MiamiDx for routing.
The best way IMHO is a ADSL-modem with
internal router (need less power, stable, intigrated switch).

    My story:

    1. (2001) I had 2 Amigas and on my PPC-Amiga I used ADSL directly with MiamiDx (X-Surf) over
a normal ADSL-modem (old T-Online Siemens - the first ones, since ADSL gets popular in Germany) and it worked. The I want to use more then 1 computer and bought a 5-port switch
and connected the other Amiga (1200), and a
iMac on it and the PPC-Amiga was the router.
Runs very well. The I used an old PeeCee with
Fli4L as router, the the Mac after installing
    Mac OS X.

    2. (2003) As I got my Pegasos, I wanted to use MiamiDx and an ADSL-modem directly, too. It worked, but after some time the whole system freezed (as I described before). I thought my Peg. was defect, but then I bought an ADSL-modem with integrated router and used
MiamiDx as 'normal' ethernet stack with a static
IP for the computers in the internal network.

Believe me, it's the best way! And now the routers and modem/routers are so cheap...

BTW: If You have such thing, You don't have
to use MiamiDx, You could use Miami, AmiTCP, Genesis (everything stack works - tested)!

    Regards

Buy a router. I got a simple one from SMC (barricade 7004), it was about 30 EUR and has 4 ports and all those useful things like DHCP, firewall, SPI, NAT and VPN support etc.

Once the router was set up, configuration of Miami was a thing of four clicks!

if i understand all right ... you allready have a router, so no need
to buy another one :) and you have a Windows PC that can allready go
    online with this router.

now you can look at your Windows PC TCP/IP config
    windows 2000/XP
    run cmd
    and type ipconfig /all

    or windows 98
    winipcfg

than you will see what IP adress the windows PC use to get in conntact
with the Router. I think it should be something like 192.168.0.2 with
subnetmask 255.255.255.0 and DNS server 192.168.0.1 which is the IP
adress of your router (as example).

than make a new interface with miami and set the TCP/IP config stuff
to the same like the Windows PC. the only thing you have to do is to
set another IP adress as example 192.168.0.3

this is all ... dont forget to write the dns server address to the
    miami database (database/dns servers/add)

OK - I obviously haven't explained myself very well:

correct - bought it two days ago after numerous people told me it would solve the problem of getting the peg on my ADSL connection.

No, I have an ancient PII think pad which goes online with a USB ADSL modem. It has no ethernet connection, so cannot use my new router. Apparently there is no way to connect MOS using this USB modem.

    So, to clarify:
My current ADSL connection is via win98 thinkpad and USB modem.

    I bought
this Sweex ADSL Modem/Router Switch annex-a.

I cannot connect it to my laptop as laptop has no ethernet.

I don't know if it works with your router as well, but this is how I did it. I just pluged my Peg to the router and went online (settings do not matter, some IP on subnet 255.255.255.0), then I started a brower and typed in http://192.168.128.0 (the local default IP of the router). The configuration frontend appeared on my browser. I tried to make my settings (failed in my case because of Java Skipt error). After setting up the router (I did it at least using Firebird - if you have a Linux install on your Peg no problem/typed in my provider data and chose DHCP and configured the firewall) going online with Miami was just the some clicks of selecting via_rhine device and choosing DHCP. That has been all.

ok now i read the manual.
your router has as default the following IP 192.168.8.1

so you can use the following settings
    IP: 192.168.8.10
    Subnetmask: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway: 192.168.8.1
DNS: also 192.168.8.1 or 145.253.2.11 as example

if you have setup your LAN conection, go online and surf to the
following URL http://192.168.8.1 ... now you should get a web based
config for your router, where you must enter your ISP data.

you can download a example setting for miamiDX here
