    I already posted this to PPCZone.org
    =========
    Hello,

    I'm thinking about buying a Pegasos 2 and use it as a server under linux and I'd like to know if anyone tried an Adaptec 2120S SCSI RAID card or any other SCSI RAID adapters.

    If so, did you get great performance?

    Would it also work with MOS?

    What other adapters would you recommend?

    Thanks,
    Fred

    For what I know noone Adaptec controller works on Pegasos. Only some Simbios Logic SCSI controller work on Peg (support in MOS and in Linux) and the most performant usable on Peg are the one whith 895 chip.
    FYI: if you will need one, me and Magnetic have some Simbios Logic 895 SCSI Ultra 2 Wide (LVD 80MB/s) controllers on stock. Tested and working on Peg.

    @Miky060

    I would absolutely need a SCSI RAID card for that server.

    What's the issue with SCSI cards on the linux side?

    Are the drivers specific to the Pegasos II architecture or is a driver for an Adaptec 2120S (which works in Linux Debian x86) gonna work recompiled on Debian PPC?

    Thanks,
    Fred

    it should work under linuxPPC... now the problem is that it needs to be supported by the OpenFirmware to boot on it... that's the problem and it's not supported by OF... but once linux kernel is loaded and the kernel module for this card is loaded I can't see why it should'nt work... so the best thing for you SHOULD be the following (without GUARANTEE)
    using ide flash drive for kernel and modules using our SCSI RAID controller for hard drives...

    if you need 100% GUARANTEE SCSI RAID on pegasos I only know the following
    use a SCSI RAID tower and connect it to a symbios 895 Controller, but I have to admit it's a VERY expensive way.
