That would only confirm my theory that this is a timing issue - the HW init during cold boot is too fast (on a G4). A solution would perhaps be to change the order in which the hardware gets initialized, or/and add some "dead weight" loop to delay things a second or two at some point if a G4 is detected? Anyway, this should not be too difficult to fix in firmware, should it?
