    Okay...colour me confused.

I've been using DHCP on my LAN for quite some time. WIth the Peg 2 for
a few weeks on both linux and MOS 1.4.2. My DHCP server is on my
DSL modem - it happily dishes out IPs, nameservers etc. to all
    machines on my lan.

Suddenly, today my pegasos 2 will not get an IP address from it. All
other machines on the LAN still can. Power cycling everything in the
path does nothing. Removing machines from the LAN deos nothing.

This occurred during an install of Linux and also multiple times under
MiamiDX and is 100% repeatable since first occurence on Linux (where I
thought nothing of it because hey, once is once!)

I re-copied SanaII device. I checked that a valid ID (MAC Addr)came up
with query device. I tried different cables, different switch ports
but no, all of a sudden the Pegasos can not get an IP address via
    DHCP.

The only thing to solve it 100%(well, workaround) is to use a static
    IP setup :-/

Anyone else see this...anyone can help diagnose?

I have a similar effect with my cable modem. I always get an IP adress with my Peg 1 but I cannot transmit traffic through the modem. It always works with windows, most of the time with linux and a bit less often with OS X. Rebooting the cable modem helps. I have some ideas about MAC addresses cached in the cable modem and so but this doesn't explains why it works with windows.

The problem disapeared when I installed a hardware firewall between the cable modem and my LAN. The firewall also has a DHCP server for the PCs and it gets it's WAN address from the DHCP server of the cable modem.

Of course I didn't install the HW firewall to solve this strange Peg problem but perhaps you could try to reset your DSL modem after unsucessfully trying to get an IP address with your Peg, this helped me.

    To summarize:

There are some problems between Pegs and certain DHCP servers.

This problem also exists with other OS but much more often with Peg (or Miami to be more precise).

(Oh yes, static was never a problem on my Peg too)

Well, I don't even get an IP address via DHCP...so who knows if I could get any traffic through or not.

In this case, powering on and off the modem does not help.

It also worked for months on my Peg 1 and nearly a month on my Peg2. It just suddenly stopped working like some kind of hardware failure.

Yet the DSL modem is able to provide service quite successfully to my Mac and PC on the same LAN.

I always got online with Miami until I had to reinstall 1.4.2 and Miami both. Miami gets all the addresses, or so it reports, but I can't get traffic through my router or modem. It was quite perfect before the reinstall. Linux goes through right away. Dunno what the problem could be, all of the settings on Miami are the same as before. Tried using Genesis, but it reported that it couldn't obtain the local ip address.

I'm using a cable modem and DHCP through MiamiDX with no problems. Not
sure what would cause that issue. Maybe you should power off the modem
for an hour or so and unplug it. This will make sure its completly
clclear of all data. I had to do this at one time.

I was thinking about cycling the power on the router and the modem. I've had to do this before, but in that case, no machine on the lan could access the internet. In this case, the Winslows machine and the linux side of the Peg 2 get on flawlessly.

    Hi @all,

Hey, static IP is not a disease. For some computers, it is not that hard to setup a correct ip layout.

Well, I used Static IP most of the time..it's just odd that my Peg II stopped working. I suspect hardware failure but have no idea what could cause it if everything else works.

I have tried power cycling router, switch, modem and everything. I might try leaving the power off (on my DSL modem) for longer than 10s

Static IP might work directly with an ethernet modem, but if one goes through a router of some sort, DHCP server is a necessity. I have tried everything this morning to get MorphOS and miami back online. No luck. Miami says it's online and all my parameters seem to be correct, but Voyager will not bring up any pages. Sounds like a name server problem, but miami verifies and adds name servers.

may seem like a stupid question, but have you check to see that the
offline browsing is not checked when you right click and look under
settings? Mine was set to that when I first used it and it frove me
    crazy before I saw it.

'Twas checked, but unchecking that and looking at some other settings for the browser didn't seem to have any effect. I'm going to re-install Yam and a couple of inet programs to see if it may be V that's giving me the problem.
