I keep getting a white screen when I boot MorphOS on my PCIe 2.0GHz Power Mac G5.

Booted both from CD and HDD.

I have a XT1900GT Mac PPC radeon card. I tried putting in the nvidia card even though I thought it wasn't needed.

MorphOS is up and running I can hear it boot entirely from the CD and I can reboot it with the keyboard.

I can get to Bios just fine with just the 1900GT in the box as you would expect.

    Any ideas?

I forget which key you can hold down during the boot process of MorphOS to default to a lower resolution. Maybe it was the Alt key if you have a PC usb keyboard. Since your x1900GT is a Mac version, the nVidia one is not needed at all. :)

No guarantees holding down the key will remedy why it just hangs at a white screen but worth a try.

    It's CTRL.

Are you sure that this card is Powermac G5 version?

As I know, there was ATI Radeon X1900 G5 Mac Edition for out late 2005 Powermacs. I.e. PCIe G5 dual core and Quad.
I have exactly this card and it works.
Original MacPro ( Intel ) had ATI Radeon X1900 XT.

I am not found sign "1900 GT" on powermac cards. Yes, G5 edition have the same graphics chip like GT, but different bios.

Of course, it can be labelled different ways, but I recommend double check if you have real Powermac G5 version.

And of course, If you have original Powermac NVidia in first slot, you can use PC version of X1900 GT card for Morphos and linux.

You are right that this product had not written the "GT" anywhere. There's merely been a reference to "X1900 GT" in the ATI store and in the German manual where it says that the card is equipped with the X1900 GT GPU. Nonetheless, tech media often referred to this card as an X1900 GT, like here.

It didn't come with a manual, the seller was very specific that is was the card.

Since I can get into bios on the Mac, doesn't it have to be the PPC card?

Getting into OF does mean it’s a card with Mac firmware. Does the card come with 2 DVI outputs? If so, try the other.

The white screen indicates that it most likely got initialized by OpenFirmware but it seems that it doesn't make it into MorphOS as you should usually get to the bootlogo screen or a black screen there.
This could have multiple reasons, though. You might try the 2nd output as well.

    Man I can't win for losing :).

I have this one PM with loud fans ready to put me in the funny jacket in the padded room and we have...

This PCIe system. Here is an update.

    1. The sell of the card swears it is the PPC version. So for now I will believe him.
    2. I tried both DVI ports with the same results.
    3. I tried with both cards and just the one.
    4. I can see the firmware and boot selection screens just fine on the card. Once I tell it to boot from CD it gives me a white screen. MorphOS will boot no problem, can here the CD booting away and I can CTRL cmd cmd and it reboots just fine.

I'm at a loss at this point.

    Yes, works just fine.

Shows up as the 256 mb card ID 0x7240 so it has to be the PPC version.

Where can I download 3.15? For some reason my 3.15 won't boot, probably got scratched or something, although I can read it in Mac OS...

Tried 3.15 and 3.11 both give identical white screen as 3.18. Sigh...

matt, you’ll have to sort this out with Frank. The card you’ve got likely needs some driver change.

Would other PCIe users with the XT1900GT please share their PowerMac versions and setups?
