Would a motherboard from a 12,1 (Quad 2.5) easily fit into an earlier G5 case? Would the psu (wattage permitting) from the earlier G5 work on the 12,1? Meaning, is the pinout of the connector the same?

I've not done a deep dive on this, just curious.

Now when it comes to power supply - it's a different pair of shoes. The wattage is one thing - Quad's got a 1000W PSU - but the plug connector is completely different. 7,3 is using somewhat standard ATX-ish connector style while 11,2 is using a series of metal "badges" that have corresponding points on the mobo (and they're screwed together).

Not worth the hassle, I believe.

There was a Video on Youtube once from EEVblogs Dave, picturing him very impressed by the engineering of said powerbars in a G5 machine.
