    Thanks for mentioning this Wiebetech stuff! I was not aware of this possibility before! Luckily it seems all the SiL controllers can be flashed from Linux too with flashrom (klick)! I don't want to burden my G4/G5 with some old Apple OS. ;-)

    Funny, flashing the SATA SiL3112 with Wiebetech firmware worked, the card works as usual on amd64, but crashes the Linux kernel on my G4. :-D So I guess it will be an IDE DOM for me too, after flashing the original firmware back.
