Peg2 systems well for more $$ than X5000 systems second hand.

Must have been a very cheap second hand X5000 system :-)

    Nice buy.
I have had people ask me almost that much for a SAM460 system.
Still, the "last one" sold on eBay doesn't dictate the market price, since there was only one for sale.
That logic only applies to the market price of housing in a specific area, and then only loosely.

I'm sure the buyer was happy, if he's an OS4 user. The market price seems to be in a downward trajectory, if such a small sample size can be viewed as such. A few weeks prior a NOS Cyrus motherboard with RAM sold for $1,250 (USD) with free shipping. That's more than the later whole system, but still a significant discount from A-Eonkit directly.

We'll see if more get listed in the coming weeks and if the downward trajectory continues.

Personally I don't hate the Cyrus board, just that as a MorphOS user I find it completely redundant and excessively expensive. Maybe if I can get just the MB used for ~$400 one day I might consider it for MorphOS. Maybe not even then, but using a standard case and PCIe could be cool. I would still be taking a step down from my G5 when it comes to brute CPU force.

I know you are on the fence about getting one yourself, and I don't blame you. If a MorphOS user wants one and has the discretionary cash, more power to them.

Well, it not really fence sitting, I've committed to buying one, but as I want the model that will work best under Linux I'm willing to wait for the X5000/40.

According to Frank and Mark, this Soc (the P5040) breaks the USB driver so that's an issue that will have to be resolved.

And right now, since we don't have 3D drivers for anything above the R500s, our current AGP G5s are adequate.

I have an HD 4770 stashed for when the R700s get 3D support.
    I like that card.

Just one external power connector, more powerful than the 4670, with less power draw than the 48XX.

Pegasos II systems usually go for half that.

I've found a 600EUR Pegasos II system on AmiBay. As the price is very high (from the "what you get for your money" point of view) it might as well count as a "nice collectors item". After all the ODW costed $799 back in 2005.

500 EUR (= 580 USD) one week ago.

OK, the price is trending down now on the Peg2. A couple years back they went for much more. For a while it was the only system that could dual boot OS4 and MorphOS. Even after Sam460 got a MorphOS port, people seemed to prefer the superior Peg2. I guess now with Cyrus Plus / X5000 supporting both OS, the Peg2 is finally losing it's shine.

koszer's quote (770 USD at that time) is from 2011/2012, so after OS4 release for the platform and before MorphOS release for Sam460 (and way before X5000 release). I remember there was a significant rise in Peg2 resale value in the 2 years between OS4 release for Peg2 (02/2009) and Sam460 release (01/2011). Many Pegasos II systems changed hands especially after MorphOS release for Mac mini in 10/2009 when many MorphOS users switched from Peg2 to Mac. This Peg2 "migration" and value peak dropped with the Sam460 release and essentially died with the X1000 release a year later. It's been 7 years of relatively low Peg2 resale value since then.
