I just received an OWC 250GB SSD.
Once I installed it, I could see it, but not format or mount it.
And I get two errors.
On startup I get "need version 0 of bsdsocket library".
And the formatter produces "couldn't open rexxsyslib library".

Any ideas?

G5 ? Internal SATA ?

What happens when you open HDConfig ?

My guess is that it is preinstalled with 1 HFS+ partition.

The boot drive is an 80GB Western Digital SATA drive that redrumloa included with the system.
I would like to format the SSD with a copy of the boot partition and a larger system partition.
Then I'll retire the Western Digital drive.

All of the drives in this system are SATA.
The DVD-RW drive is attached with a PATA to SATA converter (which, btw, works fine with MorphOS).

Re-edit: Got it, the system does not like both drives attached.
Working with 3.9 on the SSD right now.
This reinstallation isn't going to complicate my registration, is it?

So it's either a SATA SSD running on a PATA adaptor or an 2.5 with an adaptor to 3.5 running as slave to the 80GB??

Just try putting it as single drive on the 2nd port instead of the DVD drive.

Or put it in place of the 80GB, boot from CD and see what either the MorphOS installer or OSX try to make out of it.

Edit - Using the G5 keyboard I have, I can't get the system to boot from CD.
And using an SATA to PATA adapter does not make the drive any more accessible.
I am going to try to format the drive under Linux.

OK, now I DO have a problem.
Since the drives don't want to work together, what do I need to copy from the original drive in order to keep this system registered (as it now thinks it is unregistered)?

Is there a license key I can copy?

I have the SSD working, and I picked up a 1.42 GHz cpu.

Now I've got to remember to do proper backups.
The last SSD I used failed to boot one day, and there's something to be said for drive noises keying you in to imminent failure.

Jim,

If you didn't delete the email sent to you with the license key file, you could get it from there, instead of searching for it on the old hdd.
