I had some older Radeon cards like the 7000 and the 7500.
But the card I stuck with the longest was a 9500Pro (basically a slowed down 9700).
I have had more 9800 cards than I can count (great series and DX9 was around a long time).
The Apple 9600Pro and 9600XT are good choices for people that are not fixated on having the fastest card.
They draw less power and they can be had cheap.
Flashed 9600s are definately to be avoided as they really don't work well (in short, the worst canidates I have ever seen for flashing).
As basic video cards with a fair amount of memory, I would recommend them.
And, of course, we have accelerated drivers for all R300 series cards (something the red team lacks).
Did you ever see a speed comparison between the Apple branded 256mb Radeon 9650 and other previously released Radeon video cards? It was either the standard video card for 1 or more G5 PowerMac models, or was an optional "upgrade" card that could be chosen at the time of ordering. I can't find the page with the results I am thinking of, which I had read previously, but it showed that the 9650 I mentioned above to be significantly slower than even the much older Radeon 8500, 9000Pro, 9600XT, and possibly even slower than some others, in a few of the test results. I think there was some kind of design flaw in that particular card which caused this lower performance. I'll keep looking for the web page I once read regarding the Apple-Radeon 256mb 9650. I have, or had one of these video cards, but after reading the test results for it, I removed it and never used it again.
Maybe the MorphOS R300 driver fixes the speed problem with that card, but I doubt it.
Here is one link that supports (partially) what I wrote above, but it does not have the test results, so isn't the page I remember reading years ago.
