I'm running 3.9 and I'm copying 7882 files (about 870mb) to USB. It starts out copying real fast, then gradually gets reeeeaalll slow. Yesterday I left it running all day copying more than that and when I woke up this morning, it never finished copying. Mouse worked but I couldnt click on anything. Yesterday I also tried copying 4 .lha files about 600mb each. It copied 3 and errored out on the 4th. The method I'm using is right click, select, copy and then paste to USB. What I'm copying is a mixture of different Amiga files..most are .ADF's compressed in zip format.

Anyone have this issue? Sounds like a bug.

I vaguely remember having the same problem on my PowerBook a couple of years ago but can't remember what fixed it or even if it remained unsolved or not.

I suggest you try copying from the shell.

No. I shouldnt have to copy different ways to accomplish the same thing.

    @jPV/others:

No issue for me on the PowerBook. I can copy many files and 4 huge tar files >600mb without issue.

I'll test the G5 out tonight and I'll look at Poseidon logs.

This problem is also known from Efika and Pegasos. It only occurs when copying a big amount of files. Mostly sticks are affected, but sometimes also (selfpowered) HDs. Seems to be a old problem of USB-drivers.......
In some cases a external hub between prevents it......
    Peg2, 3xPowerMac G5, 2xPowerbookG4, 2x MacMiniG4, Efika (again), A3000T and life is never boring.....

Most likely is that you experience tons of "NAK timouts", which result at a complete failure at some point. USB is broken by design.

However. I *always* open the usb prefs when copiing important files, because every single NAK timeout, even if it succeeds at the end corrupts your data. Thats why it is important to compress them, so you can see if the data was transferred correctly.

I am using firewire now which is not only faster, but also rock stable. Thanks to the Macs targetmode you can turn any system into an external HDD and ship data over.

I have the same problem in AmigaOS 3.9 using USB through Poseidon. It happens on both my Spider 2 card and with my RapidRoad on my x-surf 100 card. It could be a poseidon issue?

Target mode is a great idea! I forgot firewire works in MorphOS on the Macs!! Time to move my install over to my new powerbook!

There is a device type that fails shortly after starting copy process (error 45).

This depends on the used firewire chip inside the external HDD. Unfortunatly yomgui never had the chance to fix it. He probably only has devices with the working chips.

However if you have a working chip in your drive it works rockstable and perfect. I use it to clone my pegasos2 system onto all my Macs.

You have to use short high quality usb-cables.
    My USB-HDD works reliable now.
    No NAK-Timeouts anymore.

Weird. Thought I replied. Yes I get NAK timeouts. My USB is a pen drive. No cable.

Ok, I think its related to my usb stick.. I used a Cruzer fit 8gb... getting NAKs copying many files.

Switched to a PNY 128GB.. copied 19GB of files (over 6500 files).. 0 NAKs. I'll use the PNY stick from now on.
