PowerBook G4 WIFI issues

    Hi all,

Bought PowerBook G4 (A1052) already upgraded to 1.5 GB as a MorphOS machine. Installed brand new PATA SSD and went to install MorphOS 3.9. To my unpleasant surprise, Airport Extreme does not work in MorphOS (AP list is empty) while it works perfectly in OSX and Ubuntu (b43 firmware package needs to be manually installed). Reading on the forums, Airport Extreme should be working by default in MorphOS.

Here is some hardware specific info from OSX...
Wireless Card Type: Airport Extreme (0x14E4, 0x4E)
Wireless Card Firmware Version: Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 (4.170.25.8)

IIRC, Ubuntu sees it as BCM4320 Rev 2 and as already mentioned, WIFI works after installing b43 (legacy?) firmware package.

Is this card supported in MorphOS or not?
If not, will it be supported in the near future?
If not, which cardbus WIFI card would work in both MorphOS and OSX Leopard? Preferrably in 5 GHz range.

Just in case, enable the wireless interface in settings, Save and then reboot.

As soon as I enable the wireless interface, that window is not responding to anything. I can't even close the window. It's not a complete system freeze, just that window freezes. Ambient menus work fine.

That's not good. Could you try to grab a log once this happens? Right click on the screen depth gadget (right top edge of screen) and enable the Debug screenbar. Click on the screenbar to fetch the log.

I've reproduced it two times and logged it in separate log files. Here are the logs:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/9yx4n4jglke5xln/morphos-log.zip?dl=0

I just realized that it doesn't freeze right away as I said before. Network interface can be toggled infinite number of times. It freezes when any of the "Save", "Use" and "Cancel" buttons is clicked.

Downloaded ISO again, burned it and installed again. Same problem.

Also, there is exactly the same issue with installer after it's finished installing. There is an "OK" button which, when clicked, causes the window to become unresponsive. You can move the window but can't close it or resize it. Clicking the 3 little icons in window's top-right corner makes the window resize but text and title disappear, only bitmap is redrawn properly.

While installing you can force the wireless interface to be enabled although it doesn't see any APs. When such installation is booted from HDD, wireless interface will be enabled by default but it still won't be working.

Did you perhaps play with the Debug preferences and turned on full MUI debugging? Your logs are really cluttered...

Had issues with mine at first. I had to install the last supported version of OS X on it, do the airport update so the firmware updated on the wifi card and it worked perfectly after that once I booted back into MOS.

Sorry about that. I turned on everything in Debug preferences because it was logging absolutely nothing by default and you haven't specified which category you're interested in. Better all than missing something. I could redo the logs with specified categories.

Where did you get the Airport update? I have latest (10.5.8) OSX installed and "Software update" says everything is up to date but I can't see any Airport update in installed updates.

    EDIT:
Downloaded AirPort Utility for Leopard/Snow Leopard. It only scans for AirPort which I don't have. AirPort Extreme card's firmware version is still the same.

A log without any debug options enabled would be most interesting - I'm curious whether there's some crash in the log.

It could be that your airport has a slightly different chip revision, which might be causing a problem with our drivers...

Almost everything in debug menu is greyed out if none of the debug options are enabled. Only "About" is clickable.

    Chip is BCM4320 rev 2.

Any suggestions on supported CardBus or USB 802.11n 5 GHz WIFI for PowerBook G4?
