It seems that the gfxcard in my macmini (1.5GHz) is broken, I got lots of colored lines/pixel all around the screen;(

Today I tried again, and direct after I turned the macmini on there were no errors, but after about 20 minutes uptime (doing nothing) the colored lines/pixels appeared again;(

And the program GraphicsBoards reports that I only got 32MB of memory, although it should display 64MB.

Also "memtest vmem verbose" reported many write errors when verifying.

Is there any hope for my mac mini?
I think its not easy or even not possible to exchange the memory on the gfxcard???
Is it possible to put the harddisk into my powerbook, would it boot from it?

I think it started the next day after I pulled the network cable (while the mac mini was working) to change some cabling, because I installed a new router.
Could it have something to do with this?

Sounds like a cold solder point. Some people had success fixing GFX cards by backing them but I'm not sure a complete mobo would survive.

Booting the HD in a PB should work but you could also get another Mini on the cheap and have the key transfered from the broken one.

I think about using my PB as a desktop because of the better gfxcard (more gfxmem), more ram and (slightly) faster cpu...

External monitor is working and I can choose a higher screen resolution, so its worth considering!

I just need to plug/unplug the keyboard/trackball/iomegaHD everytime I want to use the pb on the couch:-)

I doubt it as Ethernet is hot-pluggable.

Well i have tried this with a pc Laptop - it worked for a few month. Importend is just one thing :
you have to shield the parts that do not need to be resoldered and shield the lower part as well(Alufolie)
Because otherwise it could get worst. 200 degrees celsius with spinning hot air (Umluft).
Try 6 minutes and keep an eye on it. Remove all Plastic parts and take a few pictures while disassembly.

    Good luck!
