I've been running MorphOS on my Power Mac G4 quicksilver 733 MHz. for a while now. I wanted to use it to record audio, so I did some research and decided to use a soundblaster live 5.1 pci card I had lying around for a while. After installing it, I went for a clean install of MorphOS 3.5, but a few seconds after Ambient was loading (from the CD), the monitor would go black. Tried pulling the board out MorphOS installed and boot perfectly. I re-installed back the soundcard and MorphOS still boots perfectly. After switching setting in AHI to use the soundblaster card instead of the built-in Apple audio, I went to the sound prefs and hit play test sound button. I heard the test sound from the speakers connected to the soundblaster, but the screen goes black. Tried clicking again and heard the test sound. Screen remains black. I then reset and I can boot fine, but play test sound (I assume any sound output will do this), killed display is the soundblaster card is set to music unit and unit 0. I believe my graphics card is a Radeon 7000 series. Any help or suggestion will be greatly appreciated.

What other PCI cards are you using? Try swapping them or just changing the port the Soundblaster is plugged in to. There's some hw issue in the card itself that makes it work incorrectly in some PCI configurations. I had to use a specific card order in my Peg2 for example.

I tried to swap around gfx card and the sound card to no avail. I then tried to swap the original gfx card with another radeon 7000 series. I'm giving up getting the soundblaster to work. If anyone has any other sound cards they recommend the are easy to find, under $50, pci interface, compatible with Morphos including recording support, I'll definitely check it out. Still this issue is weird because the sound card give sound, kills the display and will continue to give sound if I don't move the mouse and click.

Assuming the gfx card is in slot 1 and the soundblaster is in slot 2:

Did you try slots 1 and 3, or 1 and 4? There is a chance PCI slots 1&2 are sharing an IRQ, so changing the slots used might resolve that.

Sadly I don't have a G4 tower to test with.

    Hi,

this will not help you but there's something weird with PCI graphic card on Mac with MorphOS (works well on MacOS).
I had problem some years ago with PCI Radeon 9200 on my QS2002. (fresh MorphOS 2.7 installation)
    - slow display after few seconds with MPLayer (100% CPU used)
    - USB Mouse/KB random disconnected (have to unplug and plug it again to works)
=> AGP Radeon solves all problems.
