I was thinking of installing aros on an ibook g3 700 mhz but the aros people suggested I was more likely to boot morphos ... I think they were still talking about the same computer.

But morphos is not supported on g3. Even if the installation disc worked, and even if I successfully installed it on a g3 also, would I be able to register it?

    Couldnt see why not...

But do yourself a favor and find at least a G4. Either craigslist one or find a quicksilver/MDD for next to nothing. The speed of the G3 700mhz may be slightly unbearable. ;)

Nope, won't work, G3s are not supported.
But all G4 iBooks are and they can be had cheap (less than the cost of the OS key).
And the recommendation of the Quicksilver is pretty good.
I purchased one a few years ago for $15.

And try to make sure that you'll buy a HW that will be satisfactory, cos licence key can't be transfered from one HW-class to another...

    Want mobile ?

    - PowerBooks ..... really get one of the 4 1.67GHz models, everything else is to much of a compromise considering that prices won't be much lower

    - iBooks ..... 14" makes no sense (IMO) not really smaller than a 15" PB, not really cheaper but surely lower in specs.

    - 12" iBooks ..... just get the 1.33GHz model, all older ones have the crappy ADB trackpad

    Want desktop ?
    - MacMini (the 1.5GHz one) QuickSilver and MDD G4 or G5s, all a matter of taste

Having purchased a 14" 1.42 iBook, I would naturally disagree with the first opinion, as I purchased mine for $70.

The 12" 1.33 GHz models can be had for even cheaper, though considering the high cost of an OS key for all laptops the PowerBook, if economical, is the best laptop option.

As to desktops, in the US thanks to the ridiculously low prices on G5s, unless you're getting one at negligible cost, the G4s are hard to recommend.

I have another computer. A supported g4 ibook 1.33 ghz. With recent installation of MorphOS.

    But ...

How horrible is the ibooks with the adb track pad? Will I not be able to right click with the two fingers on pad and one finger on button?

I don't mind paying for more than one MorphOS. But I will always ask first so I won't buy the "wrong" computer.

As for the g3 ibook, I will never get that specific model of g3 ibook again. So far all of my other various os installation attempts to it failed.

If you have the 1.33 I'd stay with it, but then since I use a mouse trackpad use isn't important to me.

Getting old .... in_correct did indead mention in another thread that he had found the touchpad-prefs which would suggest he has an 12" 1.33GHz iBook.

    @Jim

Dunno, a 5.6 PB can be found for well under 100Euro around here, has an USB-KBD (2 seperate command keys, light...) a better resolution, a better GFX-card, 250MHz more and PCMCIA.

So yeah, I stand by my comment.

Yes, if it worked (which it doesn't) and if you installed it (which you can't), you would be able to register it.

No PCMCIA on iBook is something I always forget. I take my wireless card for granted these days, and wouldn't want to go back to a wired>wireless dongle.

That is a big plus for the PowerBook, but if you've already got an iBook...

2 command keys on a powerbook? But I have 2 command keys on ibook also. But the light up keyboard and better graphics, larger screen, resolution, etc. When I add to my collection, this will be my second MorphOS computer.

There are two keys, but the ADB interface does not differentiate between them, while MorphOS relies on those two keys reporting different values.
