I just picked up the 1.42ghz model of the 14" iBook to test out MOS on a notebook. Its installed just fine, but I am having some issues figuring out the keyboard.

How do I use the delete key as backspace? I get nothing, making it hard to do anything.

Volume and other keys: Do any of them work?

    Thanks in advance!

Well its starting to look like the delete key is bad. Its not working in open firmware as well.

I have the exact same model, and yes the delete key works as a backspace automatically.

Yeah, that is a weird one.
So far, I have had one key pop off and disappear, but that has been the extent of my problems.
The iBooks keyboard does appear pretty flimsy though.

Basically, the backspace key in the upper right of the IBook keyboard works both as Backspace and Delete key. If you want to use it as "Delete" you have to press it together with the "fn" key found in the lower left. If the key does nothing at all, it is most likely broken ...

Yes I have confirmed its broken. Strange how a few keys suddenly just stopped though. I have tested another keyboard from a friends machine in it. So I now have a new one on order.

I just noticed that a license for this is 111.11 euros, ouch...

New keyboard came and works great! Its from an iBook G3 14" so its the transparent looking one. I think it looks better than the original one actually, and it fits the same.

Now the question is; Is it worth the $125 to register MOS on an iBook 1.42Ghz machine with 32MB of video RAM and 1.5GB of system RAM?

I have an iBook 1,33 Ghz with 1.25GB (max) memory.

The 32MB video memory are no big deal, as you have a limited screen resolution of 1024x768 anyway. It is a great system. I would say, test and use it before registering. Thats why there is the option to use the demo for free.

Yeah, Im going to play with it some and see how I like using it over my Powermac. Its faster then the desktop, but I have a much better video card in it from a G5 machine. 256MB of RAM on it.

So far its a fun little machine, and it gives me that dream of an "Amiga" notebook we've all wanted for so long.
