Finally got a chance to hook up some of my G5 towers to install MorphOS, but no luck....

First time the CD booted, it just went to a black screen and nothing came up. I gave it another reboot, but this time it finally loaded up to the main install screen. The computer would go through up until the point it goes to initialize the drives choosing automatic install, then the computer comes to a halt with the CPU fan full tilt.... This was on my 2.0ghz G5

On my 2.7ghz G5, the video was offset/scaled wrong (Even using a mac Radeon 9650), but I managed to navigate through the menus. It did initialize which took it awhile, but once it goes to install the files, thats where the computer yet locked up and froze, with the CPU fan also full tilt.

Not sure what else I can try... I got another 2.0ghz tower as well as another 2.7ghz towers, but would like to see what is going on. 8-)

    Like Henes suggested:

Ambient menus -> About MorphOS... -> Support -> Report a bug

    or you'll receive no help.

PegasosII "Elite" Machine --> PowerMac MDD "popular" Machine --> MacMini 1.5 "still more popular" Machine

If the install freezes when you pick automatic partitioning you could try going into tools/HDConfig and then delete all the partitions on the drive and save. After reboot the automatic setup will probably work for you. Sometimes the junk partitions left on the drive by other operating system can cause an issue.

I tried to give it another go. It was going ok but now it stops copying files during the install and comes to a halt.. I will just try to report the bug..

Got around to doing some more testing.

I hooked up my 2.0ghz G5 tower, and managed to get it to install. For some reason it would just halt and not initialize the first partition. I was using the automatic sizing option. I did what was suggested and umounted all the partitions and tried the install again, this time the installer successfully went. :) Installed pretty quickly too...

My 2.7ghz is still having issues though. Still locks up part ways into installing.

    Either way, :) Glad to have a G5. 8-)

    More updates:

Setup my passive setup 2.7ghz G5 tower, and that one flew just fine... Install went great... So now I dont know if my drive on my problematic 2.7 has a bad drive?? But it might be a high possibility as this 2.7 I replaced the drive in it last year.

So anyone else that might be having slow install speeds/comes to a halt, you may have a drive that is going bad. Swap it out for another.

    Final update:

Got up this morning and tried to troubleshoot some more... The problematic 2.7 G5 is now FULLY working. :) I swapped out for another cd drive, but one from my MDD macs, which was a HL Data Storage drive... It would load up and you can hear the CD spin back up, but nothing after that, it would stay stuck at that screen and nothing more....

Gave it a final go and swapped out for another HL Data Storage drive, but some crazy black cased one I had, and WHALA! Boots up very quickly and loaded the CD quite quickly... Install went very quickly... After a nice reboot, system was booted! :)

So now you all know. You have issues booting up or something is wrong, detach/throw away/smash/dance on the cd drive. 8-)
