Mame rom set

I am toying with emulators on MorphOS lately but I get mixed results and feelings.

Particularly for Mame I have extreme trouble finding compatible roms. I have searched for a complete rom set collection to download but with zero success in every major mame/rom/arcade/torrent site. I have found complete sets for 0.149, 0.150 and 0.151 but nowhere the 0.148 collection is to be found :(

Moreover by downloading individually rom files from abandonware/arcade sites it's a gamble whether the game will be compatible with the specific version or not since none reports mame's compatibility version. And it's a gamble that I am loosing since most roms do NOT work.

So, my first question, does any of you have a complete rom set collection (with or without extras, artwork and chd) to share on a torrent or can point me whether to download? From where are you downloading your own roms?

Also, is there any chance that mame will be updated to latest version so I can download a compatible rom set which can be easily found?

all you need is the 0.148 DAT file and a tool like clrmamepro which can generate and rename any romset back to the version you want. the tool can be quite tricky to use, so google for a guide.

I wouldn't anticipate any further releases soon beyond 0.48, as the emulator gets slower (heavier) with each release.
yes it's true that the rom file requirements are hard to find but, but the emulator gives a display of missing files, then you search for those and hope to find them, and that they work. Some sites allow you to view each individual rom set files. Yes it's tedious, but, it's the only solution I have for now. I love mame as well btw

Also remember that there's another common reason why certain rom might not work - it might depend on parent rom (version of different region with minor differences, so they only have files that actually are different) or system bios (neogeo.zip etc.)

Luckily Vectrex doesn't suffer from incompatible rom sets, and all original roms are public domain too :-D

Well, if that holds truth then the urge for someone to release a complete working collection of Mame roms under MorphOS is even stronger. Even in smaller in smaller batches/sets of 5GB each time - doesn't have to be the whole set at once. As far as I understand the more Mame progresses the lesser compatibility with older roms gets. With Mame's pace, in a year from today the situation will be even more difficult and it will be prove even harder to get hold a specific rom or individual file of a rom.
