    Hey guys,

    This game worked fine with my Radeon 9600 Pro in an otherwise unchanged setup (G5 2.7ghz, 1gb ram, etc). I have upgraded from the os version 3.2 to 3.3 and simultaneously upgraded vid cards to the Radeon 9800XT. Suddenly, Robin Hood only shows a black screen..?

    Also, I tried changing the SDL settings to promote SDL screens, but it didn't help. Ideas? :)

    Thanks!

    I would like to know this too. I'm getting the exact same hw in the near future. And current hw is also identical and RH (full version) works really good.

    Hi Frank,

    I've got an original full version of Robin Hood going spare if you want it (I never really got into it to be honest).
    Will post it over if you want to PM your address details.

    Best regards

    This looks like it is G5 specific problem in SDL. Many many years ago when Robin Hood was running very slow on G4 (due to SDL issues) I developed fast byte swap routine to get games using 16-bit frame buffers run faster. I think this has backfired now...

    I am quite busy ATM but I'll try to look at it today. Any chances to have someone to test new SDL libraries on G5? :-)

    Most likely this causes troubles with all other SDL games running on 16-bit screen.

    I haven't got a G5, but can test Robin Hood/16-bit screen on r300 (Powerbook 5,6) and r200 (MacMini silent upgrade) tonight if that's useful.

    I've just got a few more hours work to do this afternoon, but should be back by about 5.30 GMT.

    Scrub that, I forgot I have a social committment tonight. Sorry :-/

    No need to. I have Mac Mini here and Robin Hood demo works properly on it. I suspect I have got an alignment bug in SDL code.

    Ok, please try this:

    http://itix.amiga-projects.net/SDL/powersdl_g5_test.lha

    If it works you should get corrupted gfx (which is easy to fix but will be done later). If not then it is something else...

    I tried that library on my G5 with 9600 pro 128 meg gfx card. And yep, the grapchics are bonkers but it doesn't seem to affect the game. And the intro movie works.

    @yasu

    And with the original version of that library you got blank screen?

    @esc

    Can you see if it crashed? I.e. if you execute C:GetRamDebugLog command you can retrieve system log file and hopefully there is something SDL related...?

    No, with the original library everything works fine. But I use 9600 pro.

    Interesting. So it is not G5 problem after all but something different. Anyone else having issues with SDL games? What is your configuration?

    I have problems with SDL games in my powerbook g4 mos3.3 but It´s just installed and perhaps I have to configure something. I see garbage but dont know if changing the screen resolution will help.

    Hey, I'm not near my morphos computer right now but I will get the logs for you soon :)

    The interesting thing is that it worked fine when I had my 9600 pro radeon card. I switched it with a 9800 xt and now it doesn't work. :)

    As someone who pushed hard to get the R300 drivers, all this is troubling.
    But it does seem to be related primarily to G5 use.

    I do have one friend with an R360 based card that is giving him issues.
    However, so far, the main problem I'm having is with these cards longevity.

    The 9800XT runs hot and I am finding cards that only fail 3D testing (at least the R200s had the decency to usually fail all at once).

    So I tried the c:getramdebuglog and there is no output. I tried this from a fresh boot, tried after trying to launch the game, etc. This is MorphOS 3.3 after upgrading from MorphOS 3.2 with pack Chrysalis. I have a g5/2.7ghz and radeon9800xt.

    Okay it confirms it hasnt crashed. Maybe this is not G5 related at all but perhaps SDL failing to open certain screenmodes. Well, I have to think a little bit because this appears to be more complex.

    Hello, as I have recently written in this thread, I have a PMAC with G4@1,6Ghz and a Radeon 9800XT. Many applications/games are giving me a headache (I upgraded from MorphOS 3.1. to 3.3 and upgraded the card as well - note that under the same configuration with a Radeon 9000 applications seem to work correctly), including some that make use of SDL (i.e. ScummVM). Would you like me to test something for you?

    If it's my SDL settings you want to know it's this:

    Startup options: both checked.
    Windows: both checked
    Display options: public screen + default
    Promote SDL screens: unchecked
    Other options: unchecked
    Jump botton: jump to a new screen - checked

    @Yasu,

    I tried changing my configuration to match your preferences as listed above. Behavior for me is the same (blank screen, nothing).

    I should mention that the whole time, I'm able to hear background music, and I'm able to click my mouse wheel to get back into Ambient and reboot the workbench gracefully.
