For reasons I don't understand, games that used to play well and its own small window, in my previous Morphos 3.1 installation, don't play well with MorphOS 3.3.

I'm referring to games such as Eat The Whistle, Primate Plunge, Pipe Panic, DukeNukem3D, etc., which mornally play windowed, now open in a centered window on a black background scree with vertical white lines in both sides of the game window.

I've been using Grunch with Pack Chryslais 3.3.1 to isntall these games.

I have not changed any parameters in MUI or any other place. My installation of MorphOS 3.3 is about a week old. I have only installed a few applications this past week and they play well, in terms of resolution or display settings.

I also noticed that the following error message opens when I try to run Hex-a-Hop: Cannot load font `Progdir:data//font.ttf'.

    Any suggestions?

I notice that all these games are using SDL, so the following thread may be of help to you:

    https://morph.zone/modules/newbb_plus/viewtopic.php?topic_id=9530&forum=3

That thread talks about a G5-specific SDL issue though, so it may or may not apply to what you experience on your G4 machine.

Thank you afll for your help.

These are the answers to your new questions:

    1. My computer is a Mac Mini G4 1.5 GHz (or 1.67. I'm not sure anymore since my computer was stored for 1 year).

    2. Interestingly enough, a look in Prefs: SDL revealed that Promote SDL Screens was unchecked in my case. Turning it on (checked) makes the game to work in their windowed version again. I'm confused by this, but hey it works.

    3. The most pressing point now is tha Hex-a-Hop still doesn't work; this is my missy's favorite game. I still get the error "Cannot load font `Progdir:data//font.ttf'."

I will appreciate your help in solving sticky point 3 above.

Clarification: Uninstalling and re-installing Hex-a-Hop doesn't clear the error, in fact it just remains the same.

Same problem here (PowerSDL v16.0). Not sure, but seems to be some SDL path handling issue.

The path above looks bad to me, because it has two '/' in it, which means it actually tries to load the font from "PROGDIR:font.tff". You can try to copy it there, and see if the game runs.
This is just like television, only you can see much further.

The Hex a Hop problem is easy to solve. Just cop the font.ttf to the Progdir:
As the consol sayed it is searching in the parent directory of Progdir:data/
Short: open Hex a Hop / Data. Copy font.ttf to Hex a Hop.
    For me, it works. :-)

That sounds like an error in path handling... I have to check powersdl_ttf.library and main lib =P
    1 + 1 = 3 with very large values of 1

A quick fix for this is, to copy "font.tff" to the directory where hex-a-hop is.

    ok, others were faster;)

Guys, thank you for your responses and please forgive me for my ignorance, the result of being away from my computer for over a year, but are you saying:

    - Copy the _ttf folder in System: Fonts in Hex-a-Hop System:Games/Hex-a-Hop/Data?

    Please clarify using instructions fit for a "user back in training-wheels mode" :-}

    Thanks.

No. Copy or move font.ttf from System:Games/Hex-a-Hop/Data into System:Games/Hex-a-Hop.

I think it would be best to copy the file ,just in case the SDL fault will be fixed.
    Copy font.ttf from System:Games/Hex-a-Hop/Data into System:Games/Hex-a-Hop.

This fixed it, but has anyone noticed that the full screen toggle is not working? It just generates a black screen with random color lines.

May I ask what are your SDL preference settings?

They are as follows (some items are translated by me from German so might not match exactly):

    Startup options
    [V] Center window
    [V] Low CPU priority

    Window
    [V] Iconify button
    [V] Jump button

    Display options
    - Ambient
    - Default
    [_] Promote SDL screens

    Further options
    [_] Debug on

    Jump button
    (*) Jump to new screen
    (_) Send Alt+Enter

    Edit: corrected typos

    Thank you Andreas.

I am perplexed though. The other day I unchecked [_] Promote SDL screens because other games (see above) were not opening right. Today, and following your settings, I unchecked that option again and Hex-a-Hop plays in full screen and the rest of other games (boulder dash, road warrior, eat the whistle) are playing normally too in their respective windowed versions.

    Here I'm scratching my head....uhmmm.
