    Hi,

I remembre sharing files between my old A1200 and Windows 98SE without problems with samba. But When I upgraded win98 to winXP, samba never worked anymore.

Is someone reading me now and having samba working fine for sharing files between morphos and WinXP ?

    maybe printing to ;-)

    @serge:

Sorry I can't help you but I would like to know about this too. (Idiot
    proof info preferably :-D )

    I have a Pegasos, A1, Win98 PC and A1200 tower here.
I'd love to be able to transfer files between them but haven't the
    foggiest where to start.

I also just acquired a D-link 16 port Ethernet hub, which I'm hoping
    will make this easier.

works here in the network too. just installed samba with the swat client and then configured samba on http://localhost:911/ with ibrowse. I share a directory here on morphos which can be seen under windowsxp.

The other way around (mount a directory which is shared under windows) probably needs a bit more installing. :-)

    I'm HAPPY HAPPY.
It works now, after 2 long hours of search and investigation with snoopdos.

Installation is hard. There is somethings missing in the main archive like SMBhandler. Configuring MIAMI is not realy very clear on docs. But now IT WORKS to share files. Last problem is to use a printer shared on PC to be used from pegasos. I dont know how to print on this share.

Tango is a very funy tool ;-)

I just set it up after carefully following the instructions here:
    http://www.birrabrothers.com/tiger/data/samba/install/

It is working just fine. :)

Lucky you. I can't get internet connection sharing (ICS) to work with XP. I have a firewall installed on the XP server (the machine that is connected to the internet) and webwasher as proxie. Something somewhere stalls.

I have no problems with my Peggy in big ethernet of PCs (WinXP). I can see all their shares, I can mount (problem is only when the share has a SPACE between a letter). When I mount it, it makes me an icon in Ambient. So sharing and mounting is possible.

Have you "smbfs" in your C?

You must have all properly installed (copied).

Probably the best thing to do is stop using the big Unixy Samba.

It's crap. It's not really meant for Amiga-like systems. Olaf Barthel did a great job porting it, but as it stands it's fairly crashy, fairly incomplete, and fairly difficult :D

Use his "SMBFS" tool instead. You can mount Windows shares with it and access them as drives on your desktop. It definitely works with Ambient. Hopefully someday something similar will be built into Ambient or MorphOS rather than a seperate tool on Aminet ;)

Unfortunately it doesn't do printing. That's still something we haven't gotten on the Amiga. I'm actually at a loss to work out exactly how it'd be done, too :D

    smbfs - try AmiNET

and "smbfs" is in "lib" directory in Samba package, copy it into your "C". Then all shared directories will be showed on Ambient.
