I am not a gamer at all, so I don't know what games are good and which are a waste of time to even try.

I would like to try out a few games on MorphOS2.7, or even on my G4 PowerBook with the old beta version of MorphOS3.0 that I was allowed to show at last Oct. AmiWest Show.

Can any of you MorphOS users who play games on MorphOS2.7 suggest a few games for me to try out? I was thinking of maybe buying the Heretic II game, or Quake 2, or FreeSpace, but don't really have any idea which games run well on MorphOS, or which games have good game play and graphics and are recommended by other MorphOS users.

I tried browsing through the game forum here on MZ.org, but did not see much in the way of reviews, or discussions about game play. Most of the threads seemed to be about what tweaks, or patches are needed to get some games to work on MorphOS.

I would prefer to try some games that don't need too much fiddling with to get them to run on MorphOS, and preferably not games that need emulators like Mame, or some other kind of emulator like those that allow the running of PS2 games, or PSX games, or Gameboy games.

I might have to use some of these emulators to try out some other games later, but for right now, I would like to start out with MorphOS ports, or native games (if such a thing exists), or Amiga games that work on MorphOS with or without the addition of a patch or extra files/libraries, etc.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions. I like strategy games and turn based RPG games usually, but I am willing to try some real time RPG, or First Person Shooter games for a change of pace (though I am sure I will suck at such games).

Edit: As I stated in the Heretic II thread, I have a 9pin to USB adapter, so I can use my old Amiga joysticks in a USB port, but I don't know how well it works, or if it's response time is acceptable for most games. I don't currently own any USB joysticks, or joypads, so I am open to suggestions on which ones are best to purchase. I had heard that some USB joysticks were really slow responding, so they were unusable for some games.

I haven't used too many game titles under MorphOS yet, but I kind of enjoyed Fortis.
I have a copy of Quake III Arena for my PC (and I've always been impressed with that title), but I haven't been able to get it to run under MorphOS yet.
I also have a copy of Return to Castle Wolfenstein, but as I never got that far into it on a PC I haven't felt the urge to try it under MorphOS (great graphic on that one though).
One of these days I'll get around to one of the Doom ports as I always enjoyed that game.

I'd love to see some classic arcade ports and I'd like to check Mame to see if that's improved.

And, if we ever get JIT support for UAE, we may have enough horsepower to really enhance legacy game performance.

I haven't played that much either, mainly just testing quickly different games how they work and look, but still there are few games I've addicted and played more. Those are for example VirtualGP2 (really good especially with usb driving wheel), Battle for Wesnoth, BoXiKoN (great little "tetris" kinda game, my gf is totally addicted: MorphOS version highscrore 13793), OpenTTD, Foobilliard...

And then few I'd like to play more some day.. Robin Hood (looks and feels very good with little testing), Return to Castle Wolfenstein (I'm not fan of FPS games, but this seems to have something)... maybe some Software Tycoon and Knights and Merchants too...

Well if you insist in useing that PB you have to rule out anything 3D (*doh*)
Battle of Wesnoth, plenty 2D SDL-games or even Geit's BoulderDäsh can be quite nice.

If you have 3D you might try to aquire FreeSpace II (for the PC on CD) as there is a port available.
Free games like Virtual-GP or Armagetron are also worth a look.

Nativ Games like the Ketm shooter 1941 are cool in the demo and really great in full version (it cost me less then 2 Euro from HunoPPC).
Gianas Return is one of my first MorphOS Games and I played it for many hours (with my competition Pro joystick). As jPV said Boxikon is a nice
game for an hour or two. If you like childrens Games like Word me Up XXL (its a bit more expensive, 20 Euro) there is a demo for OS4 and MorphOS.
I have bought FeebleFiles and it works without problems on MorphOS 2.7. Knights and Merchants looks good in the Demo if you like such Games.
I have installed Myst on MorphOS and it seems to work. There is quiet a lot to play

Warzone 2100 is a Napalm type of game and is excellent.
Defintiely recomended.

And Earth 2140... its 68k AHI update works under MorphOS.

Yes, of course. And it works.

At least none that I'm aware of. I remember that this was a reason for severe censure towards Epic/RuneSoft back then.

Opposed to what some people might claim, ScummVM is *not* an emulator. So the games running via ScummVM *are* running as natively as native can be, i.e. not any less native than running Feeble Files via Epic/RuneSoft's executable.

I have installed RTG.master for MorphOS.
And after the click Boom picture everything went black and stays that way.

What am I doing wrong?

No, as I've never had such an entry in my user-startup. I used to start OS4Emu from within the Napalm start script. And yes, I've taken that entry away after I installed the MorphOS-native cdplayer.library.

Try duplicating the MorphOS-native cdplayer.library into Napalm's own library subdirectory. For whatever reason, this seems to make a difference here.

As we've established in the "Naapalm on MorphOS" thread, patched Napalm doesn't use RTGMaster at all, so it should make no difference if you have it installed or not.

Please, if you suggest a game that needs supporting files or libraries that are not part of a clean MorphOS2.7 install, let me know what the file/library dependencies are and where I can find them. I hope that some of these games will make it into the Grunch databases, so they can be installed, updated and removed easily. I love Grunch and think it is one of the most important MorphOS programs for users like me that are not as comfortable at setting up programs and games which need extra files, libraries, patches, etc. so they will work properly.

Grunch will also be very important to the dozens of new MorphOS users that register their G4 PowerBook's as soon as MorphOS3.0 is released. If you are a Grunch user please consider donating to the Grunch author. After sending in my donation I was shocked to find out how few people have donated to the author for that program. We MUST support our MorphOS programmers, if we want them to continue to write code for good MorphOS programs and games.

Anyone else thinking about replying to this thread, please make a list like kozer's, of your favorite games to play on a MorphOS computer. What games are the "Must Have's" that every MorphOS user should have installed on their computer?

Maybe it would be better if I don't get hooked on any really great games??? Naaaahhh, what would be the point of that, I don't have anything better to do with my time, except learn how to program on MorphOS.
