OK, here's what I've found so far:
I got an official Polish retail version CD from a friend and I've acquired all the needed data from it. Then I decided to copy them
over my old installation but it did not help, the inventory bug was there.
Then I tried deleting the "data" folder and copying the data again, this time only the files provided by CD Projekt. And
voila, it worked!
I'm testing it right now and everything seems to be OK.
Now I just have to find that pesky file (files?) that has caused me so much trouble...
