Well, SDL ports are nice, but... SLOOOOOOOW! Almost no games are playable on G3 pegasos! Why is the SDL so slow? It degrades the Pegasos HW so many times... Like Spectrum emulator... the SDL port requires G4 to be usable, while it worked smooth on 68030/50 (native, no SDL)... Is it possible, that in (near) future will there be (a lot) faster SDL port?

    Bye, MarK.

'here' means what? how could a game like starfighter be so slow on G3/600? That simple game... Why are all SDL games so slow comparing to linux SDL games? I know it's very nice, that we can create games so simply with SDL, but for what price? To buy stronger HW just to play a simple 2d game? I'm really not satisfied with current SDL speed. Just think about it.

When I almost thought he burried his compiler, HAK is back! And this time he's armed with the new Tinygl SDK:

Formido: Simple shooter where you are surrounded by endless armadas of critters and try to survive as long as possible (and take lots of those pesky insects with you).

    https://morph.zone/modules/mydownloads/visit.php?lid=335

Tomatoes: Small game for 1 or two players (simultaneously) where you have 10 minutes (60 seconds/level) to destroy as much tomatoes as possible.

    https://morph.zone/modules/mydownloads/visit.php?lid=332

Fly: Simple shooter where you steer a fighter over a grid-landscape and destory other fighters.

    https://morph.zone/modules/mydownloads/visit.php?lid=328

Rollercoaster2000: Rollercoaster ride simulator. Select your rollercaster and enjoy a ride in it.

Well, SDL ports are nice, but... SLOOOOOOOW!

Some are slow, some are okay, and none are responsive and quick. Madbomber! was okay and there are other okay SDL ports. But none that I've tried are speedy.

I think that's a handicap for programs using SDL and similar libraries. It also goes against MorphOS' great strength of responsiveness.

However it should be possible to get a good result out of SDL for apps and certain styles of games.

If you're bummed out by not-fast SDL ports go try AsteroidsTR which definitely doesn't use SDL.

It seems other devs are joining the competition:

Itix released no less than 5 ports the last few days:

MadMatrix - Hard MUI game with very simple rules.

    http://main.aminet.net/game/think/MadMatrixMOS.lha

Conquest - ASCII space empire game

    http://main.aminet.net/game/think/ConquestMOS.lha

VideoPokeri - Nice multitasking video poker game

    http://main.aminet.net/game/misc/VideoPokeriMOS.lha

    UChess - GNU Chess

    http://main.aminet.net/game/board/UChessMOS.lha

DescentII - MorphOS port of Descent II V1.2, from D2X 0.2.5 source code

    http://main.aminet.net/game/shoot/DescentII.lha

Mind you, those aren't neccesarily SDL ports.

But Itix wasn't the only one to release gameports. Frank Willie released a port of

Pinguin Command - Missile command with nice gfx and sound
    http://main.aminet.net/game/actio/penguin-command_mos.lha

and Fabrizio "Lanch" Bartoloni did a port of

SDLZombies - SDL Remake of ZX81 game with zombies

    http://www.aminet.net/package.php?package=game/actio/sdlzombies-mos.lha

    Thanx guys!

Quoting myself from irc yesterday about our daer HAK:

    Quote:

"Did he do six ports or only five?" Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as this is a GCC compiler, the most powerful compiler in the world, and would compile any code you throw at it, you've got to ask yourself a question: Do I feel lucky?....Well, do ya punk?"

Really great nice games. Specially my son like them. They are very pretty and nice games.
    Thanx you all.

    Peeeeeeee Too Many Games !!!

    :)

But I dont uderstood why tinygl.library is only for developers. It should be public.

I think there is a good time to launch MOS 1.5.
with SDL games, MOSnet (works great) & some libs. etc.tinygl.library.

    Thanx again ...

tinygl.library is part of MorphOS 1.4.x since mid 2003.
    Check MOSSYS:Libs/tinygl.library

A more recent version is also avaliable in the 3D update pack you can download from the MorphOS FTP.

It is public for all MorphOS users and is not reserved to programmers.

I was able to compile several small SDL Games. Although some of theme where once available according to MOS News.de
I didn`t find them and more recent versions where made in the meantime. Hope you like them.

    Tuxmath
    Defendguin

BTW, I tried to test them as much as possible and they did work fine for me, however, if somethings going strange, I am afraid I can`t fix it, as I don`t have much clue about coding ;)
