    Hi,

on www.pegasosforum.de analogkid posted the idea to make a poll for an open firmware update from bplan for Peg1's.

As I cannot find any entry on Morphzone, I'd like to start the poll now.

Do you think, there should be an update for OF of PEG1 ? Why ?

    Judas:
I think, there should by an upgrade to gain compatibility with Peg2's bootmenu-style ..
    bye

ask the guys to make the poll in english if they want significative results.
Well i'd love nothing more than to have an OF upgrade for my old peggy, but i don't think BPlan would take it under consideration. It's kinda useless IMO. As useless than making a poll for Microsoft to release Windows XP PPC to the public.

judas: not only for the Bootmenu, I would like to use more than 256 MByte RAM in Linux.

Every Peg1-User who is interested in a OF-Update could write it here, I collect the names and submit them to bPlan.

I'd like an upgrade, but must admit that I'm saving up for a peg2/g4 atm.

I wouldn't mind having an update, but frankly, my poor peg just sits on the other side of the house crunching dnetc. I just upgraded my Mac to Tiger and am engrosed in that for the time being. I've also picked up my ham radio hobby again after about 30 years and am considering selling my Peg1 for money for radio stuff.

If there was an update released, I'd install it of course. :-)

okay, but I'm sure there are many people who use their Peg1 every day, and are glad to get an OF update. My Peg1 has 1 GB RAM, and it's a shame, that only 256 MB can be used by Linux, not speaking of the present firmware bugs. And I've heard, that MOL 0.9.70 doesn't work on Peg1 because of the faulty firmware.

Now I would really appreciate an upgrade - I have a nice Peg1 that I don't plan to sell anytime soon.
BTW, what firmware version are you running? IIRC I have 0.1b114.

I also think it would be good to be able to run Linux with more than 256M. It might even be easier for other os developers to port their OS to Pegasos (Read: Haiku, Darwin, FreeBSD etc)

I use my Peg1 everyday and think it would
be great to have updates to open firmware.
The Peg1 is still great hardware with much
    potential if supported.

Why don't we set up a list of issues with the current OF in order of (user POV) priority?
    I would personally say :

"256MB limit for linux" first, then
"No USB keyboard at boot time" and last
    "ATX shutdown impossible".

    What about you?

I'd like to have an upgrade. I don't know if I'll be trading up to a Peg II any time soon. And even if I do, this Pegasos will still be used, either by me or someone else.

hmm, I don't really know. OF probs sounds realistic, because MOL relies on it.

The Peg1 here is my main computer at the moment, I'll probably get a
Peg2 within a month but the Peg1 will still be used.

The only real problem I have with the current age-old OF is that about
every second boot is aborted due to some spurious signals from the
mouse, causing the dreaded "keycode xyz has no translation" or
similar. Sometimes I need to reboot 2 or 3 times in a row, this is
quite annoying. And when demoing stuff it's highly embarrassing to
explain why this extremely simple thing hasn't been fixed after
    several years.

i know what u mean, this kind of issue should be fixed, don't we deserve it ? Just because we bought our machines years ago or second hand means that we don't deserve bugs to be fixed ? Or maybe just a way to push Peg1 users to buy a Peg2 ?

why would they bother fixing OF for Peg1 when they'd better like u to buy a Peg2...

as an owner of a pre-april peg1, i have to say it would be nice if i could get a newer version of the firmware.

I realize there are things that may never work as well as a peg2, but that's just something i have to live with.

If someone buys a Peg2 he'll probably sell his Peg1, and the guy who buys it will want an OF update for the same reasons.

I VOTE YES. (Unless I win the lottery tonight, in which case there
*will* be a Peg III, and all those MorphOS coders will
    *immediately* go on payroll!)

    Hi,

for me, the Peg1 is some kind of test, whether to go for a Peg2 or not.
The difficulties in finding working memory ( detected in the right size) is not state of the art, nor are the other issues mentioned here.

Considering the price, the Peg1 was sold, there should be a little more support ...

My personal fear is, that the Peg2 will come in the same situation when 1 year is off and Peg3 is in plan ...
    bye

One of the point of the peg2 compared to the peg1 is to get rid of the difficulties with memory.

BTW. When I bought my peg1 it was called a betatester. In one hand I wished that the 200 euro upgrade would have materialized but on the other hand I am blessed to have bought a peg2 today.

The problems on the peg1 can be a little bit annoying but I would prefer bplan to focus on updating the peg2 firmware.
Why should they spend some time handling more memory sticks now that peg1 owners have had their peg1 for a long time and obviously already have a working setup ?

I'd also like a firmware update for peg1, these are the most annoying things I would like to be fixed:

    - Keycode 0 has no scancode (PS/2 mouse movement) during reboot
    - No atx shutdown
    - No decent MoL support
    - No magic packet wakeup for the onboard network card.
    - Better bootmenu support

    That's about it I think. :-D

why don't you go back playing with your Peg2 ? this poll is for Peg1 users. There are many problems to solve, not only memory issues. You had a firmware upgrade for peg2 not so long ago so please leave us alone here.
