well, as it's possible, that the engine will support soon 24 bit display, wouldn't it be worth to generate 24 bit textures, and now develop a smart converter to 8 bit palette with nice dithering? Or is it so specialised, that it can't be simply converted and the gfx must be redrew by hand?

    Bye, Martin.

You are correct, Odamex will soon be getting a 32 bit color upgrade, I've been doing my testing using that particular branch in fact. Sadly this will not allow me to transcend the 256 Color Palette limit that is currently holding me back, though it will offer a great enhancement in how Odamex renders the screen and distant areas of the map.

Eventually though, the Odamex team intends to add in support for hi-resolution textures and the like where in I will no longer be limited by the 256 color palette. It is for this reason that I keep back ups of the original textures in their full, true color beauty. They'll come in handy some day, just no time soon, at least according to the Odamex team.

I would be much more interested in Alien Breed Tower Assault remake :-).

I'd love to have someone come along and offer me resources based upon that game, but intended to work in a first person perspective. That would be much more up my alley than those offered in the Aminet AB3D resources. Sadly I am not good enough with graphics to take on such a task all by my self. That and the fact that I'm so busy with all the other aspects of the project.
I can at least say though that Towers is serving as an influence for some of the work I am doing, it was a very unique entry in the Alien Breed series.

    Hey X.
    Neat project.
By the way, of topic, but I play around with an Atari 130XE myself (converted to use a Hitachi 6309E processor).

Really?! How did that work out? Is it still backwards compatible?

Not in the slightest bit (which is why I have a second 130XE with the original processor and a floppy drive).
Right now I've just begun to figure out how to use it (finding info on directly accessing the audio and video was difficult).
I have hacked a version of Tandy OS-9 Pascal to run on it though.
The CPU stealing of the graphics generator is kind of wreaking havoc with the OS I'm using (Nitros09).

Besides, as a relative novice with Amigas, I keep getting drawn back to playing with the A2000 I bought this winter.

And my new job puts me on call 24/7 which is also eating away at my spare time.

I envy your ability to devote time to software projects.

Funny though, almost all my hobby computers are tied to a PC to emulate floppy drives.
