    Hi,

Since some days I'm working on a Shoot-Em-Up Construction Kit for MOS.

My working game is heavely inspired by classic the Arcade and Amiga 2D shoot em ups. Its about halve way finished and might give you an idea of what the Kit is aiming at.

Screenshots and alpha download are available here:

looks very promising! But every object has an red box around itself, is this normal in this early stage of developement?

    gunnar!

this looks really promising! i love this kind of games, (banshee is one of my favorite:) a great idea for our belowed platform! and true amiga feeling:)

where are the graphics came from? did you draw them yourself? your 1944 could be a big HIT at the 80s!:)

is it possible (or will be) to play in window instead of fullscreen?

keep up the good work and thanks for it!

    Hi,

    Great work !

Except that it seems there is a little problem with transparent color on my Radeon7500: http://nogfx.free.fr/1944_radeon7500.png

Wow! This looks really cool. I don't have a peg so I haven't seen it in action yet. Is this a MOS only project?

    Regarding the Sprite issue:
I've noticed myself that with the latest SDL version the
the sprites have no transparent background but a red area around them.
With the bundled SDL lib the sprites should look fine.

I'm wondering if the issue is caused by a bug in the newest SDL release?

Can you please check which SDL version you have installed and tell me?

Regarding the Construction KIT - its in a very early state and not ready for publish yet. I'll hope to have something ready in about a month.

    Regarding the GFX.
Most of the gfx is original from the 194x Arcade series.
I wanted to look the game like the classic, so I had to spend a number of very loooong night on copycating them.

Before I release the KIT I wanted to create two Shoot Em Ups. I think if the Kit is able to build two slightly different games then it should be ready for general usage.

If a creative GFX magician wants to help me with the second game then please drop me an email.

    Cheers

The KIT and the game are build using SDL which will allow them to run on any platform. I will add some speed optimizations for MOS for smoother game play on slower SoC systems.

So far I have tested the game on MOS, PPC-linux, x86-Linux and Windows.

When the KIT is finished I'll release the sources and prepare binaries for the other platforms too.

    Cheers

Okay I've verified that only the new PowerSDL version has the transparent issues - the sprites are correct with other SDL versions and on Linux.

As a quick workaround I've written my own blitting functions.

A new MOS binary (v0.11) which has now correct sprites on all POWERSDL version is uploaded.

I'll speed optimize the new blitting function in the next days.

    Cheers

Do you have old binary available? I'd like to track down this blitting error.

    Hi BigGun!

Back in the day, I used Arcade Game Construction Kit (AGCK) for C64, and it was a lot better than shoot'em up construction kit, at least from my memory. :-D

Did you ever get a chance to try AGCK for C64? :-D

Damn, this is one of the few SDL-games I've actually played more than 5 minutes ;) .. But there seems to be an issue with the keyboard handling. E.g. when you hold down space bar to fire, you cannot press both arrow up and arrow left (or other combinations..)

    @killbill

Hmm, the keyboard control works good on my peg.
But its possible that that different keyboards behave different.

If the combination SPACE + ARROW keys gives problems on your keyboard you could try RIGHT-SHIFT instead space for fire.

If you have a joystick/pad then I work recommand to use that one. The game is more fun with a joystick IMHO :)

BTW Can you control the Red player with your Keyboard?
LEFT_SHIFT to fire D-R-F-G to control
