My primary display is 1920 x 1080. When I "Lcommand m" to get a screen grab of the game, the display config for Settlers2 shows (as you noted) 640 x 480. However the screen grab preview is scaled down from fullscreen and of superb quality. On another note, I TESTed the 640 x 480 resolution in MONITORS and the preview is just as horrible and blurry as the game. I'm not sure what I need to do to get it displaying 640x480 clearly.

I opted for the download only purchase and it appears there is zero documentation to help me nail this down. Thanks for your input. I am one tweak away it seems....

So it's not the game's fault per se, or anything in its settings that would affect. Only thing is that it could mention in its documentation which resolutions it requires.

You'll have to tune the Monitors preferences in MorphOS to get the mode working and hope that it's not your monitor (hardware) that fails to scale up these smaller resolutions properly.

The game uses the "8Bit 640 x 480" mode, so select it from the Mode List (or create a new one if it doesn't exist) and start editing it. In the Edit Mode window there should be several pre-defined 640x480 modes to be selected (60, 72, 75 Hz or such), select one and click Test, repeat with another mode if the display isn't good. Hopefully one of the modes would work, and then you could save it and the game should also work. If no pre-defined mode works, a desperate step is try to tune values manually... maybe checking the monitor specs would also enlighten something...

I just cloned 8/16/24 bit monitors adjusting those resolutions to 640x480 800x600 and 1024x768. Now I've got 12 options in Mode List and game runs perfectly. Not really in 640x480 one but I can live with that.

Well, I have tinkered with testing different settings and wasn't very happy with any of them. I swapped monitors (HDMI cable) and found some more crummy test results. I then used a VGA cable and the tests looked better (not perfect) with the new monitor & VGA cable. I fired up the game and it is crystal clear... Maybe I will swap back the monitor/cable to verify it was indeed all hardware related. Menu is clear, 1024x768 looks great.
