You didn't miss anything, I'll give it a shout out when Arx Libertatis is publicly released.

Looks like a great game! Very unique with the method for casting spells. It would be awesome if it can be ported to MorphOS and the project to modernize it with bug fixes and the ability to have community created mods is completed and also ported to MorphOS.

Is there any new info on the progress of the porting work, and/or the progress of the Arx Libertatis project in general?

They are stuck in a completely unnecessary refactoring loop, which is sad since 1.2 would have brought many useful renderer frontend changes.

The port is finished, but it's too slow. If you want, you can pay me to backport the useful renderer changes from the perpetually unfinished Arx Libertatis 1.2. Otherwise the source code is public, you can have your way with it: https://github.com/BSzili/ArxLibertatis/tree/amiga

What FPS performance are you getting now with the existing port, and on what MorphOS hardware (system and video card) are you using to test it? What speed difference do you expect to get if you complete the port of the Libertatis 1.2 renderer changes, and is there any other parts of the Libertatis 1.2 code that are finished, or almost finished, that you think would be useful to also port to an upgraded MorphOS port of Arx Fatalas?

As for paying you to complete these changes, I would happily pay into a bounty fund for such work to be finished, but I have never set up a bounty before, so it might be best to have someone with experience writing bounty descriptions to do that part.

I wish Matthew Leaman of AmigaKit would finish a MorphOS compatible client for the AmiStore, so MorphOS developers would be able to use it to promote their work, as another way of increasing compensation for their time when coding projects for MorphOS.

In later areas (City of Arx, troll caves) I get around 10-15 PFS on a Pegasos II with a Radeon 9250. To be comfortable, I'd say 20 FPS would be the minimum.

Setting up a bounty has never been easier. You just need a description of with the conditions fulfill it, and send it to http://power2people.org

Well that's not too bad! IMHO quite a few MorphOS people have a faster CPU and a more capable GPU. Also compared to Alien Breed 3D II on classic Amiga hardware 10-15fps is still fast. ;-)

For me 10 FPS is bordering unplayable, since the game has real-time combat. I also get the aforementioned framerate with the drawing distance set almost to the bare minimum, which makes it even worse. If I had published it, I would have definitely got tons of complaints about the framerate.

Sarcasm doesn't work well in written text :) Anyway, I can pen the bounty description if there's interest.

I would like to test your port on my dual 2.7GHz G5 PowerMac with the Radeon R400 (or is it R420?) based FireGL X3 video card, and see what kind of framerates I am able to get.

I'll pay you and sign an NDA plus something that states I won't share the file with anyone, if that is what it would take to beta test it for you.

I hope you don't think I was being sarcastic in any of my replies. I rarely use sarcasm in any forums, specially those which have many international readers, since it is almost always misunderstood by one culture or another.

I think it is always best for the developer doing the work to write the bounty description, perhaps with input from other knowledgeable programmers who know what should be included in the description to satisfy most users with the final result.

Let me know when and where the bounty is created, so I can donate to it.

I am also still interested in beta testing what you have already created, on my fast G5 system, to see how it compares with the 10 to 15 FPS you reported earlier in this thread. I think that it may be quite playable on the 2.7GHz G5 with R400 video card, but you would know better than myself.

Since there was some interest in a bounty, I wrote a quick description of what needs to be done:
    Quote:

Improve the OpenGL renderer of Arx Libertatis, to make sure it runs smoothly on the most common MorphOS machine (Mac Mini G4).

    - Remove the Direct3D legacy of the renderer frontend (BGRA color packing, pre-transformed vertexes, etc.)
    - Adjust the renderer backend to use vertex arrays instead of the immediate mode.
    - Try to minimize state changes.
    - The City of Arx should have 20+ FPS on the target machine, a save file will be provided for testing.

If everybody agrees, it should be sent to Power2People.
This is just like television, only you can see much further.

The new MOS release gave me some motivation to revisit this. If there's anybody who'd like to do some testing, drop me a PM or a mail. If you know the game well, and you can spot colors that look off (red and blue component swapped to be specific), even better.
