Are you sure the SM502 will be supported by MorphOS?

Some gfx card has to be, and its part of the board.

Whole list of supported GFX cards is useless since PCI slot is occupied on SAMs.

Actually, while I agree 101% with Kronos, and we all know that asking for release dates won't bring them nearer nor will bring the actual answers, I feel I have to clarify that Radeon R500 support was actually showed live at Pianeta Amiga 2013 and support for R700 (HD4xxx) was already in the works. And Frank Mariak and Mark Olsen told us that the plan is to have them both completed for the Sam460 release. No promises nor announcements, and we all know that even the best plan can go all wrong, but if everything goes as expected, they'd like to release everything together in MorphOS 3.6, and they hoped to have it ready for the first half of 2014.
So, you can all stop asking, and wait for MoephOS 3.6. And if 3.6 does not include everything, *then* start asking what went wrong (and expect a simple answer as "sh*t happens").
That said, do not buy anything for MorphOS before a release happens. This has always worked perfectly for me.

    Kind regards,
    Andrea

Guru, thanks. I have somehow missed that important update.

Well, its all just 0.1 release anyway.

But you know, I have to get ready hardware-wise.

Especially because I will move SAM460ex to Lorianos X500 so I have to have definite answer which low profile PCI-E card I have to buy, at best compatible with PPC Linux, MorphOS, AROS and AmigaOS 4.

    Isn't that 4th? ;-) And what's with the non-Pro 9000? :-)

Originally I had only 3 models, had forgotten that 8500/9100 is also better than 9250, forgot to update that one number :-)

But yes, if that still has some issues on OS4, then it should be avoided on any configuration people want to be "OS4-compatible".

I assume overlay is also supported on all mentioned boards?

Yes, and you've been told for the last two months here which cards these are supposed to be. You saying "not only for damn integrated SM502 chip" implies support for the SM502 chip. That's why I asked you.

    > and its part of the board.

This doesn't mean it has to be supported.

    > Whole list of supported GFX cards is useless since PCI slot is occupied on SAMs.

Over the course of the last two months, you got a list of PCIe graphics cards that are said to be supported as soon as MorphOS for Sam460 is released.

Ah, TWO MONTHS is a Hyperlink.

Surely you had, but others have been telling contrary - its uncertain and unofficial. Thanks anyway.

By the way, I have told you that SAM460ex manual says NOT ALL (But not which do/does) of these OLD cards work on SAM460ex and that Radeon 4000+ is recommended.

That is solely only reason why I keep insisting that Radeon driver is needed and that I am willing to donate towards it - I believe later on it was mentioned that there is some work on it? (beside having to downgrade and risk OS4 not supporting it)

That doesn't change anything that has been said at and about Pianeta Amiga, which is what I've been telling you.

    > SAM460ex manual says NOT ALL (But not which do/does) of these OLD cards

Yes, but the MorphOS Team ran such old card in public on Pianeta Amiga. This is reality beating theory.

    > and that Radeon 4000+ is recommended.

    No, you said HD2400+.

    > I keep insisting that Radeon driver is needed

MorphOS has Radeon drivers for many years.

    > I believe later on it was mentioned that there is some work on it?

    Work on what?

    Good give me the list.

    No, you said HD2400+.

Its minimum, most users have 4000 really.

RadeonHD. Why do you love to pretend to be an idiot?

A MorphOS team member now says that support for anything newer than R500 "is unlikely because it would be waste on low end Sams."

Yeah. Though I dont know what is the final word on this because when travelling I am out of the loop so take it as an inofficial statement. Supported cards will be announced latest when MorphOS with SAM460 support is released.

In 2D performance that is true. According to 2D bench top performing SAM460ex card is Radeon X1950 and it beats even newer blood.

    http://hdrlab.org.nz/benchmark/gfxbench2d/OS/AmigaOS?start=0

However, once 3D performance is introduced that is likely to change.

However, even R500 family support, and fixing 3D with them and previous families would make a good deal and progress, and some choice of PCI-E cards.

I've been under the impression that the MorphOS team won't release 2D-only drivers for new graphics cards anyway, which would make your statement render itix' claim untrue, wouldn't it?

    > even R500 family support, and fixing 3D with them and previous families

    What do you mean "fixing"?
