    I'm hijacking this thread to ask a few games related questions.

    First, I'm trying to install Wipeout 2097 (Amiga version) on my G5, but the installer doesn't work. So how do I install it manually?

    Second, I'm trying to get Quake 1 or 2 to work, but no matter how I try the game just keeps crashing after load. I have tried both Yamagi port and the other, older one I can find on MorphOS files (I also use 32 bit to make sure it works). I have tried several ways to copy the game files, including installing it on Windows first (which you have to do to get Homeworld working).

    Halp! :D

    Does the G5 use R300 cards? I think I'm using a Radeon 9600. Does that use R300?

    @bash64

    For me it just freezes after loading it. I don't know if I'm doing anything wrong.

    @Yasu:
    I have a problem with Quake 1 with high res textures on Pmac MDD wich load, allows to start but when you try to select a level, freezes. The same game on a PMac G5 works flawless. The G4 has ATI Radeon 9250 128 MB graphic card and G5 Ati Radeon 9650 256 MB. In my case could be graphic card memory due to high res graphic (it worked on G4 before and even on the Pegasos with same g card) but maybe not. I will test Quake II and I will report. With Quake III I hadn't any problem.

    Thanks! The problem I seem to have is that it tries to load files that aren't in the right place. But (as usual) the manual isn't helpful here when I try to figure out what stuff I actually need installed and where. I installed the game on Windows and copyied the extracted version to MOS. Guess I'm doing it wrong again :)

    Isn't Quake abandonware? If so, wouldn't it be a good idea to include the needed files with the launchers? Or at least the demo version?

    I guess Quake is abandonware but I'm not sure though I found this:
    http://abandongames.com/games.php?gameid=2763
    and many more. I purchased the Amiga conversion some years ago and I installed from cd and when I copied the game on the Pegasos I used FuhQuake to start the game because original starter crashed system. Unfortunately now I'm not at home and so I can't say wich directories and files are inside my Quake installation... I will be able to report this tomorrow.
    Just in case you need FuhQuake:

    Sadly, I have never been able to get Gish to work on no Mos nor AROS system. Well, at least not the demo. Which is very sad since I really want this game.

    Is there any legal problems when creating fully working versions of abandonware games that makes it necessary to only release the MOS executables? I'm having a really hard time to get Quake (any of them), RtCF and other patched PC games. I would love to see a torrent of all these (abandonware/non-commercial) games mentioned ready to be runned out of the box. But only if it's not technically illegal.

    Yes, there is. Abandonware is a concept that doesn't exist in legal terms. See:

    I thought that ID software indeed released some of there games for free eventually. Like Doom and Quake. How about those situations?

    id Software has been open sourcing the program code of their older games, but the game data is still commercial.

    I see. That's a shame.

    Another question:

    Which files do I need to play the full version of Duke Nukem 3D? I'm trying to *ahem* find a working version on the net. And has anyone got the High Resolution pack to work on MOS? And can you cheat?

    You need the files from a specific version:

    I finally found the correct files and got it to work. Sadly, the last part seems to crasch at start. But the rest is "groovy" :-D

    Let me quote the relevant part of the linked posting:

    "If you want some more, here you can download high res graphic: http://hrp.duke4.net/about.php
    In the download section get the file "Duke3D HRP v5.2 ZIPFILE (677 MB)", extract or open archive and copy all files and directories in Duke directory. Now you have a complete high res game. [...] With high res graphics game is fully playable on my MDD 1.25 G4 Radeon 9250 128 MB though there are same brief slowdowns inside game and random graphic parts disappears (some textures are not shown during a play, showed if you exit and play again). This issue hasn't happened playng on a G5 with a Radeon 9650 256 MB even though some slodowns still occours.
    "

    Any more questions I can help you with?

    Well that is some very strange Firefox behavior (or maybe MorphZone.org behavior), because when I clicked on the link in your posting the first time it took me to a different thread, which did not contain any of the information you just quoted in your last message.

    I don't know what to say, or how that could happen. Also, one of the clicks on the quoted link in my message created a logfile that said I was trying to abuse the website system???

    Not sure what the hell is going on with my MacOSX Firefox browser, or this site.
